Snapshot of What We're Looking For

The IT Project & Portfolio Manager (PPM) will be responsible for managing and leading the IT Project and Program Management for the Americas, Asia Pacific, and corporate business units in alignment with the WD-40 Company Strategic Plan as well as Global IT and the IT Business Partnerships Program. The IT PPM Manager will work with the Global IT Project & Portfolio Management Directoron project management and business analyst best practices and contribute to identifying the right technology to manage IT's work effectively and efficiently in the context of investments, resources, and workload.

This position will further the Business Partnership role by using team members to serve as an IT liaison to each department it supports. This role will also lead their team in partner with key stakeholders to filter, develop and present business cases, prioritization, and to provide status on each investment request within the assigned programs.

Responsibilities

What You'll Be Doing

    Provide leadership to IT Project and Portfolio Management team that further develops and enables their ability to effectively partner with stakeholders and IT resources in identifying and deploying IT solutions in support of desired business outcomes
  • Proactively drive team adoption of approved methodologies and tools relative to project execution (Agile) and service delivery (ITIL) in support of high-quality outcomes, regulatory alignment, cost reduction, increased efficiencies, and improved system performance
  • Provide functional area leadership to team members by actively developing their ability to execute on projects in a project manager, scrum master, business analyst or business partner role
  • Effectively function in the same role as direct reports for assigned areas
  • Proactively identify and provide continuous improvement recommendations relative to people, process, and technologies to ensure the effective delivery of business requested operational and strategic projects
  • Assist in developing and managing appropriate resource allocation approaches to ensure optimal utilization across projects; balanced with support demands
  • Manage established adoption, and continuous improvement processes for vetting, prioritizing, and sequencing projects
  • Utilize financial / accounting tools to appropriately evaluate, propose and manage expenses in order optimize and ensure responsible use of company resources
  • Develop effective communication methodologies, both personally and through team members, to promote a positive and transparent relationship between IT and IT's business partners
  • Present information and facilitate key meetings to promote effective IT resource allocation towards highest value initiatives.
  • Lead and support the team in the appropriate development of cost benefit analysis that include tangible and intangible components
  • Ensures the delivery and presentation of agreed upon metrics at a frequency and format desired to accurately reflect the performance of assigned area


Qualifications

What You'll Bring to the Role

Experience:

  1. Strong understanding of project and program frameworks and ability to apply and coach others on the frameworks and cadence for IT project and program portfolio management (PPM); specifically, strategic objectives and desired key outcomes
  2. Strong understanding of a wide application of business management principles and practices
  3. Strong knowledge of Agile PM practices and general understanding of Waterfall
  4. Able to lead others in the documentation of innovative solutions to complex business or technical problems that require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity
  5. Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external teams, Global IT, and trading blocs at various levels while influencing and changing behavior
  6. Understands business process analysis and has applied experience in their development, adoption, or modification
  7. Ability to evaluate Information Technology resource requirements for new and existing operational and application IT projects
  8. Able to engage, influence, and direct all functions involved in the development of the assigned functional team
  9. Knowledge in budgeting, invoicing, financial tracking principles, contract negotiation, regulatory compliance, and business strategy
  10. Knows how to interpret and apply financial indicators and business insights towards prioritization of activities
  11. Courageously steps up to address difficult situations without being prompted

Leadership:

  1. Proficient in principles of servant leadership of people versus management of individual and team activities
  2. Competent at leading others in a purpose driven and values-based organization.
  3. Capable of applying the insights from employee engagement to drive individual and organizational performance.
  4. Able to lead in a culture of continuous learning.
  5. Proficient in practicing stakeholder theory as a leader.

Technical Skills/Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer sciences or technical field, Master's degree a bonus
  • Project Management certification, PMI PMP
  • Agile - Scrum & Kanban
  • Leadership Training
