Position Summary:
UIC's College of Medicine is seeking a Windows/Linux Systems Administrator to join their team. The Systems Administrator will provide technical expertise and support for systems and equipment configurations. They will be responsible for the implementation and maintenance of systems and hardware and software components, helping in the development and assessment of hardware and software components, recommending optimum equipment and software configurations, and providing technical guidance with regard to proper data processing methods, performance standards, security measures, and systems analysis. The Systems Administrator will identify, research, and resolve technical problems. Respond to staff requests for technical support. Document, track, and monitor problems to ensure resolution. Support applications on the network; trouble shoot data communication, connectivity, and other issues. Also help technical staff in troubleshooting operating problems.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Package, test, maintain and deploy Windows, CENTOS, and RedHat operating system images and patches.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve operating system deployment issues.
  • Repackage, evaluate, maintain and deploy software packages and upgrades.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve software deployment-related issues.
  • Responsible for overall functionality and operability of end-user systems and applications.
  • Assist in the management of institution-owned mobile devices and apps.
  • Ensure system and software configurations adhere to set policies and procedures.
  • Analyze and resolve problems related to hardware, software, and applications to ensure scalability and appropriate integration with existing systems.
  • Interface with server administrators and support staff to ensure implemented solutions conform to policies and procedures set by federal, state, University and campus governing entities.
  • Assist with buy/build decisions.
  • Research and provide hardware and/or software recommendations to meet needs.
  • Troubleshoot and develop technical solutions related to software and configuration errors for field engineers, technicians, and customers.
  • Coordinate with other University, Campus, and College entities to collaborate and/or leverage new or existing University-, campus- or college-level technologies and systems.
  • Create, maintain, and deploy Linux system images using our VMware environment.
  • Serve as liaison between COMIR Infrastructure and COMIR Support to ensure end-user requests and upper-management's requirements are in sync.
  • Provide Level 3 support for College of Medicine's Organizational Unit within Technology Solution's Active Directory environment and COM Informational Resources' Active Directory environment.
  • Assists with the implementation of systems and infrastructure to maintain and/or expand COMIR's service offerings. Assists with Backup and Recovery solutions.
  • Ensure that COMIR technicians have the appropriate access needed to perform their duties.
  • Develop and Document processes and procedures related to system management and implementation.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications Required:

  1. Bachelor Degree within Computer Science or closely related field of study
  2. Minimum 5 years of professional IT experience within System Administration & Operations which includes demonstrated experience in configuration, installation, maintenance, backup / recovery and upgrading multi-user computer systems hardware and software as well as establishing/managing user accounts.
  3. Demonstrated experience with Windows & Linux Systems Administration & Operations.
