Department Summary

The top-ranked studio-art program in a public university nationally, the UCLA Department of Art empowers students to reshape their worlds through critical inquiry and transformative creativity. Students work with a faculty of internationally recognized artists in rigorous studio courses, developing skills in Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Photography, Ceramics, New Genres, and Interdisciplinary Studio. Position Summary

UCLA's School of the Arts and Architecture seeks a dynamic and organized professional to serve as the Summer Institutes Director, leading the planning, promotion, and implementation of the UCLA Arts Summer Institutes. This position plays a central role in delivering immersive pre-college educational programs that introduce talented high school students to UCLA's renowned arts disciplines. Reporting to the Manager of the Department of Art, the Summer Institutes Director oversees all aspects of program administration, including program planning, admissions and registration, housing coordination, and student engagement activities. The role collaborates closely with faculty, staff, and campus partners-including Housing, Conference Services, Finance, and the Registrar-to ensure the successful delivery of summer programs serving a diverse population of minor-aged students. The Summer Institutes Director also recruits, trains, and supervises resident counselors and instructional staff, supports student success and community-building, and ensures compliance with university policies related to youth programs. This position requires strong organizational and communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to independently manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced academic environment. Salary & Compensation

*UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Salary offers at the top of the range are not common. Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years in Program Management in an educational setting (Required)
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and professionally with diverse audiences, including faculty, staff, students, parents, and guardians of minor participants, both verbally and in writing. Ability to convey program information, policies, and procedures with diplomacy, clarity, and professi (Preferred)
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to prepare clear, concise, and well-organized correspondence, reports, and program materials appropriate to the intended audience. Knowledge of professional email practices and business communication standards. Proficiency in Microsoft Office appl (Preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, faculty, campus partners, and external stakeholders to support program goals and collaborative initiatives. (Preferred)
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, initiative, and problem-solving skills in a dynamic program environment, including identifying issues, evaluating options, and implementing practical solutions. (Preferred)
  • Demonstrated organizational and analytical skills, including the ability to collect, track, and manage program data. Proficiency in spreadsheet and database management, including the ability to develop and maintain organized tracking systems and reports using Microsoft Excel. (Preferred)
  • Ability to develop and maintain organized paper and electronic filing systems to support program operations and ensure accurate documentation and recordkeeping. (Preferred)
  • Working knowledge of university administrative practices, policies, and procedures relevant to program operations, student services, and educational programming within a higher education environment. (Preferred)
  • Skill in researching administrative or program-related topics, compiling information, and providing recommendations to support program planning and operational decision-making. (Preferred)
  • Ability to identify operational or administrative issues and propose effective solutions while maintaining program continuity and service quality. (Preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to remain composed and communicate professionally when responding to questions or concerns from students, parents, or other stakeholders, including situations requiring tact and sensitivity. (Preferred)
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize assignments, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines in an environment with changing priorities and frequent interruptions. (Preferred)
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment. Demonstrated experience coordinating or supporting educational programs, youth programs, outreach initiatives, or student-focused activities in an academic or related setting. Ability to exercise discretion, maintain confidentiality, and handle sensitive information in accordance with university policies and professional standards.
