Albemarle is hiring for a Instrumentation & Process Controls Engineer. This position is located in our King's Mountain, North Carolina site.

The Instrumentation & Process Controls Engineer is accountable for enabling electrical & instrumentation reliability on site and providing engineering support to the E&I technicians. This includes access to and troubleshooting of control systems, introduction of improved predictive and preventive tools and methodologies for instrumentation, access to accurate instrumentation and control systems information and expert troubleshooting as needed.

What You Will Do

Instrumentation Responsibilities

  • Establish maintenance practices for the optimization and ongoing functionality of site equipment including as appropriate: design specifications; repair methodology (equipment restoration); tools and methods design, development, and rollout. Recommend and optimize Preventative Maintenance Plans to improve life cost and effectiveness
  • Work with reliability engineers to ensure that all spare parts are aligned with critical equipment requirements. Work with area engineers and planners to set ordering parameters appropriately and facilitate RSD (spares, reliability strategy) process for new assets
  • Identify and support the implementation of capital improvements that will improve the overall life cycle cost and reliability of critical production equipment.
  • Lead and support the use and implementation of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and oversee the implementation of the recommended actions from the FMEA
  • Provide support for root cause failure analyses and the develop corrective actions with shared responsibility for areas as it relates to E&I equipment failures. Lead technical investigations of causes for E&I equipment failure
  • Support corrective action resolution of equipment "bad actor" list. Collaborate with Reliability Engineers to ensure that work identified by the reliability group is prioritized for execution in a timely manner

Process Controls Responsibilities

  • Work with process controls contractors to troubleshoot PLC and DCS platforms these will include Emerson DeltaV & Rockwell Allen Bradley (including PLC5, ControlLogix and Guard Logix)
  • Work with and troubleshoot low voltage electrical equipment such as Instrument loop checks, VFDs, transformers, and power monitoring equipment.
  • Configure data Historians and reporting systems. (Experience with DeltaV Historian and OSI PI a plus.)

What You Bring

Required

  • A BS or MS in Electrical Engineering from an Accredited University.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience working in a manufacturing environment on instrumentation or control systems
  • Good understanding of OSHA and NFPA 70E safety requirements especially as they pertain to electrical work.
  • Good understanding of NEC and NESC electrical codes and standards pertaining to electrical work.
  • A basic understanding of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and their implementation.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to develop and review technical engineering documents. #LI-JH3
