SUMMARY: We are hiring a part-time research assistant (RA) for our team. Our projects use innovate behavioral and digital health approaches to improve health outcomes for marginalized and minoritized adolescents and young adults. Our projects currently focus on sexual health of sexual minority and gender diverse youth (e.g., HIV prevention interventions, comprehensive school-based sexual health education implementation, improving communication with trusted adults), and mental health of Black, Indigenous, and Youth of Color (BIPOC youth) (e.g., school resource officers in public schools). Our work is funded by the NIH, Bradley and Hasbro Children's Hospitals, Advance Clinical and Translational Research (CTR), and Society of Adolescent Health and Medicine.

The RA will participate in multiple elements of the team under the supervision and mentoring of the principal investigator (PI), Jack Rusley, MD, MHS, including:

  • developing and implementing clinic, community, and digital-media recruitment of participants;
  • training and supervising research interns;
  • conducting qualitative visits including facilitating in-depth interviews and/or focus groups;
  • conducting intervention visits including manual-guided discussions with participants;
  • assistance with data management and analysis including qualitative and quantitative data;
  • regulatory and IRB document preparation, submission, and tracking; and
  • assistance with scholarly product preparation and presentation including manuscripts.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in applied or life sciences (such as psychology, public health, biology) or related field is required; Master's degree in public health, social work, or related field preferred;
  • At least six months of on-the-job experience with research studies required;
  • Knowledge of theory and techniques of research methodology;
  • Advanced organizational skills and high level of attention to detail;
  • Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with co-workers, youth, caregivers, and clinical professionals to gather and exchange information;
  • Technical ability to learn and train others on multiple software programs; and
  • Unconditional positive regard for working with individuals from minoritized and underserved backgrounds, including sexual minority and gender diverse youth.

SETTING, HOURS, AND DURATION: This position is hybrid, meaning some in-person time is expected (i.e., recruiting participants, occasional in-person meetings). We expect applicants to commit to a one-year position, with potential for extension based on performance of the employee and future grant funding.
