The department of Facilities Management at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a Lead Campus Service Worker. About the Opportunity: Under the Direction of the Supervisor/ Manager the Lead will provide guidance to assign Campus Service Workers and temporary workers performing general cleaning of assigned areas at the Health Science Complex and Cancer Center. What You'll Do: Leadership Duties:
- Team Leader, providing guidance to Campus Service Workers and assigned Temporary workers, and any other support personnel as required. Follows procedures and makes work assignments to those individuals assigned to the crew to ensure work is completed in a timely fashion ensuring proper quality and quantify. Inspects completed work assignments of assigned worker to ensure quality control. Ensures that proper safety procedures are used while performing job duties.
- Receive work orders. Interfaces with Control Center, Supervisors, Managers, and/or requesting party to finalize set-up needs, event needs and/or scope of request. Communicates work assignments to employees, creating efficiency and a timely completion of assigned tasks.
- Provides continual inspection of assigned area to ensure proper cleaning procedures and practices are being followed.
- Individual will have to remain up to date on various cleaning products, equipment, safety procedures, medical monitoring and other associated practices of the custodial field.
- Provides continual updates on progress of assigned areas, maintenance and material needs. Ensures that work group attends training programs, completes, assignments, and returns items to proper storage areas and reports areas needing attention.
Service Duties and Responsibilities:
- Sweeps, mops, scrubs, disinfects, waxes, and polishes floors, hallways, stairs, elevators, and related fixtures using brooms, mops, rags, brushes, and powered scrubbing, buffing, and waxing machines. Cleans and disinfects bathroom walls, floors, fixtures, stalls, mirrors, lavatories, commodes, and other plumbing facilities. Replenishes bathroom supplies including toilet tissue, towels, and soap.
- Vacuums and shampoos carpets, rugs, and upholstery using commercial vacuum cleaners and shampooers.
- Empties and clean waste receptacles. Transports trash and waste to disposal areas.
- Cleans area around disposal sites.
- Washes and cleans walls, ceiling, doors, windows, radiators, and ventilators.
- Mixes, dilutes, and uses commercial strength disinfectants, germicidal detergents, and other stringent cleaning solutions following established safety procedures. Calculates area to determine amounts of cleaning solutions required.
- Moves, sets up, rearranges, and dismantles desks, tables, chairs, displays and other related equipment using a dolly, hand cart, or physically lifting objects.
Pay Grade: 10 Hours: Sunday - Thursday 7p-3a
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- A minimum of three (3) years progressive responsibility in a leadership role and be proficient in utilizing all equipment.
- A minimum of six (6) months experience in the following:
- Experience in proper commercial restroom cleaning procedures, commercial carpet cleaning procedures.
- Experience operating commercial custodial equipment such as walk-behind and riding scrubbers, high-speed buffers, automated carpet cleaners, and power lifts.
- Experience in the mixing and proper application of commercial strength cleaning products.
- Previous experience in training others in the operation of commercial custodial equipment and leadership/supervisory training preferred.
- Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered
- All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated ability to operate powered custodial equipment and train new employees
- Ability to bend, stoop and carry items as necessary
- Demonstrated ability to apply custodial products (cleaners, surface finishes, and disinfectants).
- Ability to read and write and follow safety instructions.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain proper attendance levels and meet deadlines
- Ability to motivate co-workers
- Proficient in all policies, procedures and protocol related to the custodial department
- Incumbent must have the ability to operate a computer and accurately enter information
Physical Demands:
- Work requires eye/hand coordination in the operation of commercial custodial equipment, basic ground keeping equipment and labor supporting equipment.
Requirements
- Must know how to operate powered custodial equipment and how to apply custodial products (cleaners, surface finishes, and disinfectants).
