The Division of Student Affairs plays a central role in advancing the student experience and institutional priorities, leading a comprehensive portfolio of programs that support student success, wellbeing, belonging, and engagement from matriculation through graduation. In close partnership with academic and administrative units, the division helps drive persistence, experiential learning, and holistic development.

Operating within a highly collaborative, mission-driven environment, this role offers the opportunity to shape how resources, systems, and strategy directly support student success at scale, with immediate impact and long-term influence.

About this role:

Reporting to the Senior Vice President for Student Affairs, this role sits at the center of a dynamic, mission-driven division that touches nearly every aspect of the student experience. The Senior Director plays a central role in shaping how the division allocates resources, aligns priorities, and plans for the future, ensuring decisions about people, budgets, and operations advance both divisional and university goals.

The position oversees a complex financial portfolio of more than $43 million in annual expenses, $16 million in revenue, and approximately $5 million in gifts, endowments, and capital funds. It also provides strategic direction for workforce planning across more than 265 professional staff.

As a key member of the Student Affairs senior leadership team, the Senior Director helps set divisional strategy, anticipate and respond to emerging opportunities and challenges, guide resource allocation, shape policy, and build strong partnerships with institutional leaders across finance and human resources.

Scope & Impact

Strategic Financial & Operational Leadership

    Lead multi-year financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and scenario modeling
  • Oversee and optimize a complex portfolio of expenses, revenues, and funding streams
  • Align financial and operational strategies with divisional and institutional priorities
  • Translate strategic initiatives into actionable financial and operational plans
  • Provide data-driven insights to inform executive decision-making

Operations, Compliance & Continuous Improvement

  • Oversee divisional administrative, financial, and operational functions
  • Strengthen systems, processes, and internal controls to improve efficiency and transparency
  • Ensure compliance with university policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
  • Identify and mitigate financial and operational risks
  • Lead process improvement efforts to enhance effectiveness and scalability

Leadership, Collaboration & Workforce Strategy

  • Serve as a key member of the Student Affairs senior leadership team
  • Supervise and develop professional staff
  • Advise leadership on workforce planning, organizational design, and resource alignment
  • Act as primary liaison to central finance and human resources functions
  • Build and sustain effective partnerships across the institution

Required Qualifications

  • MBA, MS in Accounting, or related field*
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in finance, operations, or administration*
  • Demonstrated expertise in budgeting, financial analysis, forecasting, and strategic planning
  • Experience with enterprise systems (e.g., Workday)
  • Experience supervising professional staff
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills

* Equivalent combination of experience & education may be considered

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certification (CPA, CMA, or CIA)
  • Experience in higher education
  • Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) and Deaf culture

Compensation & Benefits

The anticipated salary range for this position is $120,000 - $140,000, commensurate with experience. Relocation and temporary housing support are available.
