Duke University Human Resources - Benefits Administration is looking for a Financial Performance & Quality Assurance (FPQA) Analyst to join our team. In this role, you will transform complex healthcare and financial data into meaningful insights that inform the design, strategy, and performance of Duke's employee benefits programs.



You'll play a critical part in ensuring data accuracy, analyzing trends, validating financial performance, and supporting compliance activities. Every day you will work with sensitive HIPAAlevel data, uncover patterns between demographics, utilization, and costs, and communicate your findings through compelling visual and written reports. You'll collaborate with teams across HR, Payroll, Finance, and external vendors to help strengthen Duke's benefits ecosystem.

Minimum Requirements

  • B.A. / B.S. from an accredited institution, preferably in Data Science, Business Administration, or a related field. Practical and extensive plan performance and financial analysis experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Three years of experience in financial analysis, information gathering, and reporting. Proficiency in financial analysis tools and procedures.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven experience in robust data analysis, data storage, and data transfer.
  • Experience with PL/SQL and managing large data feeds and data validation.
  • Experience using visual analytics software such as Power BI or Tableau.
  • Experience in project management, census building, or ERISA/ACA compliance.


Other Requirements

  • Handle HIPAAlevel sensitive data and maintain privacy/security in all data processes.
  • Download, process, upload, and manage datasets within Duke and with external vendors.
  • Support compliance with Department of Labor and IRS regulations, including Form 5500 and Form 1095C.


This position is remote, occasional on-site visits.

Position Description (Essential Duties)

  • Support the Associate Director of Benefits, Financial Performance & Quality Assurance in project organization and management.
  • Collect, clean, organize, and analyze data related to Duke's benefit plans.
  • Explore trends, patterns, and relationships across demographics, utilization, and program costs.
  • Reconcile financial detail and determine benefit program effectiveness.
  • Create written and visual reports using analytic tools; present findings in meetings.
  • Assist with audit activities, actuarial analyses, and special projects requiring data analysis.
  • Manage data feeds to vendor analytics platforms and maintain data governance standards.
  • Provide liaison support to HRIC, Payroll, and Finance departments.
  • Research benefits information needs and respond to ad hoc reporting requests.

Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $67,732.00 to USD $116,282.00.
