Job Overview

The Director, Production Planning & Inventory Control is a key member of the Facility Customer Fulfillment Center (CFC) Operations team. They hold responsibility for operational leadership, direction, inventory, and P&L management. This Director leads a dynamic, fast-paced Macy's CFC by overseeing the execution of Macy's Customer Fulfillment strategy through continuous process improvement, operational excellence, and cross-shift collaboration. The ideal candidate is results-oriented and promotes and emulates Macy's values and behaviors by fostering a colleague-centric environment. This role demands a highly resourceful leader with strong operations experience, self-motivation, and a keen sense of curiosity and learning. They should possess the ability to coach and influence a team of direct reports and have a successful track record of driving results. This position reports to the Sr Director, Facility Leader of the CFC.

What You Will Do



  • Ensure all shifts consistently meet or surpass operational and financial performance requirements, encompassing productivity, shortage, cost control, quality, processing standards, reliability, customer service, and inventory management
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and cost optimization within production planning and inventory management. Implement best practices, lean methodologies, and automation tools to streamline operations and enhance efficiency
  • Inspire the team by demonstrating expertise in building relationships that positively impact associate engagement
  • Manage daily labor forecasts for all functional areas, allocating labor hours to reflect work content and adjusting rates to match trends and the Rolling Operational Forecast
  • Drive labor and wave modifications throughout the shift based on changes in work mix, available labor, equipment constraints, or integration variances
  • Continuously monitor and provide frequent updates to AVP, Facility Leader, and Operations Directors regarding actual performance rates versus planned rates, summarizing execution versus plan daily
  • Develop both short- and long-term strategies that align with Supply Chain Network Operations goals and objectives
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities
  • Take responsibility for ensuring continuous and effective product flow through CFC operations


Skills You Will Need

Operational Leadership: Demonstrated ability to provide operational leadership and direction, with responsibility for inventory and P&L management within a fast-paced distribution environment.

Continuous Improvement: Proven track record of driving continuous process improvement and operational excellence, with the ability to identify opportunities for optimization within production planning and inventory management.

Relationship Building: Expertise in building relationships that positively impact associate engagement, fostering a colleague-centric environment consistent with Macy's values and behaviors.

Team Leadership and Development: Proven ability to lead and develop teams, with previous accountability for an entire function within a distribution facility, preferably in fulfillment.

Decision-Making: Ability to make effective decisions and manage multiple processes in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing tasks and resources to meet operational and financial performance requirements.

Communication Skills: Open and continuous communication skills, with the ability to effectively present information in a clear, concise manner to stakeholders at all levels.

Inventory Management: Proficiency in inventory control methods, demand forecasting, and inventory optimization techniques, ensuring efficient utilization of resources and timely product flow.

Production Planning: Strong knowledge of production planning principles, capacity management, and scheduling techniques, facilitating effective resource allocation and production scheduling.

Process Improvement: High-level understanding of Six Sigma or Lean process improvement methodologies, applying these principles to drive efficiency and effectiveness within operations.

Project Management: Excellent project management skills, including the ability to plan and execute strategies effectively, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.

Problem-Solving: Ability to solve problems and address issues directly, recognizing challenges and implementing solutions to overcome obstacles in operations.

Mathematical Skills: Proficiency in basic math functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, essential for accurate inventory management and financial analysis.

Who You Are



  • Candidates with a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply
  • This position requires heavy lifting, constant moving, standing, and reaching with arms and hands.

    • Involves standing for at least two consecutive hours, lifting at least 30lbs. stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders
    • May involve reaching above eye level
    • Requires close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment

  • Able to work a flexible schedule with retail hours, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays

Supply Chain Only and Colleagues Working in a Supply Chain Facility except in locations governed by a Collective Bargaining Agreement:

Random drug testing for all colleagues will be conducted on a monthly or semi-monthly basis, depending upon factors including but not limited to the size of the facility and the number of colleagues on roll. Colleagues will be randomly selected for testing by a third party. Testing must be completed on the same workday the colleague is informed of selection for testing, absent extenuating circumstances. In all circumstances, testing must be completed within 24 hours of notification.
