DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will operate a variety of trucks and heavy equipment, take on hands-on roadway maintenance tasks, and help keep Venango County's roads safe and reliable year-round. You will learn essential safety practices, support equipment upkeep, and work as part of a team that takes pride in maintaining Pennsylvania's transportation network.

What You Will Do
  • Operate Equipment: Drive trucks, loaders, and other machinery after receiving proper training and certification, and complete daily pre- and post-operation inspections.
  • Perform Hands-On Maintenance: Use hand and power tools to clean culverts, cut brush and grass, repair guiderails, dig ditches, and perform other essential roadway tasks.
  • Support Work Zone Safety: Assist with traffic control and flagging to keep motorists and crews safe when you are not operating equipment.
  • Maintain Tools & Vehicles: Perform minor repairs, routine preventive maintenance, equipment cleaning, and report any missing or damaged tools.
  • Assist Mechanics: Help diesel and construction equipment mechanics with repairs and maintain accurate equipment records.
  • Prioritize Safety: Wear required protective gear, stay alert to hazards, follow environmental guidelines, and report any injuries or incidents immediately.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Dual shifts, overtime, and travel may be required. Work hours subject to seasonal change.
  • Telework:You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Graduation from a Commercial Driver's License Training School; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:
  • All positions require possession of an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver's License or equivalent with the Air Brake Restriction (L) and Manual (E) Restriction removed.
  • All positions require possession of an active Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations.
  • Must be able to demonstrate successful operation of equipment with a manual transmission.

  • All employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders, and two additional pieces of construction equipment, within the probationary period.
  • All employees must obtain an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) during the probationary period and continuously maintain it while employed in this job.
  • Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.

Additional Requirements:

  • This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
