Job Summary You will have the ability to provide engineering and technical support services associated with the design, construction, and operation of CenterPoint Energy's overhead & underground distribution system. Essential Functions Review and analyze customer submitted site plans, structural drawings, electric one-lines, schematics, and load analysis. Design underground facilities for electric service. Prepare cost estimates and Terms & Conditions packages for electric service to customers. Inspect customer required construction to approve/disapprove. Prepare work orders, easement documents, agreement letters and operational agreements. Perform cable pull analysis, protective device coordination studies, motor start and fault current calculations. Interpret and apply applicable codes and standards (i.e. National Electric Safety Code, National Electric Code, etc.). Support the construction, operations and maintenance of the distribution system through communication with field personnel and customers. Gather and analyze data, prepare written reports, give oral presentations related to distribution systems. Prepare new or revise engineering/technical specifications. Manage multiple projects involving customers, contractors and internal departments. Education Description Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering Technology from an accredited college or university or, sixty hours of credits in an engineering discipline and at least 1 year of on-the-job technical experience in an engineering or electric utility environment. Experience 2 years' experience in construction, utility operations, utility support roles, or related industry experience. Able to use mathematics, including trigonometry and calculus, to complete complex engineering design calculations and relate mathematical solutions to actual utility situations. Able to interpret, analyze and produce electrical models, drawings and technical documents. Able to apply knowledge of electrical theory and system operations to daily decisions. Able to make informed decisions, follow procedures and comply with policies based on the knowledge of the work and the services provided by CenterPoint Energy. Able to calculate system short circuit quantities using sequence networks.
