Design Systems Engineer - Transmissions

The Chief Engineering team is the fully accountable single point technical contact for transmission and driveline products. This includes all aspects of product delivery for current production, new product development, or advanced projects. (the "what" and the "when".)

The Design Systems Engineer (DSE) reports to the Chief Engineer and acts as the primary interface between the CE group and PRC.

The DSE is primarily responsible for managing System, interfaces and interactions between components / subsystems of the transmission and driveline system.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Transmission and driveline hardware system responsible (integration and system balancing of all components)

    • Interfacing with individual COEs
    • Manufacturing
    • Suppliers
    • Development Validation Center


  • Schedules hardware system design reviews across PRC and reviews DRE design proposals as required
  • Organizes reviews with Virtual Analysis / CAE team and ensures Virtual DVP / Scorecard is completed prior to any prototype hardware orders
  • Manages Transmission and driveline system and interface DFMEA / DRBFM (team) reviews to ensure complete transparency and development of cohesive Design Controls leading to Robust DVP Actions
  • Manages Assembly (BOM) Part# Complexity Charts including all Axle & Driveline Systems with a clear definition of each assembly part#
  • Manage BRT (Build Readiness Team) for prototype orders; Confirms proto hardware orders and procurement to meet program build(s) milestones
  • Coordinate BOM and experimental builds with ACE
  • Leads and manages build readiness tasks (build fixtures, test fixtures, dyno support)
  • Supports CE & ACE to develop FTE and ER&D/ED&D Cost Roll-ups for Minor/MCA/ New Programs
  • Review and approve all change notices ensuring checklists, LL, and E-BPs are updated and aligned.
  • Leads Technical Cost Reductions (TCRs) / Value Optimization (VO) effort and alignment working closely with PRC, DVC and VO teams
  • Represents CE in managing the "lessons learned" document for the program and ensure that TS (Technical Specialist) receive those updates on a timely manner to update the E-BPs accordingly
  • Reviews transmission and driveline system and applicable component "Validation Completion" status with DVC team periodically & provides update to CE
  • Coordinates DRBTR review and keeper of "follow up items" and decision maker on issuing GIMS for "buds" of problems
  • Manage CQI and GIMS cross functional task force teams working closely with ACE, create priorities, action plans and track progress, align and update initiatives list
  • Elevate resource issues as needed (CE & Sr. Manager for PRC)
  • Work on special projects as needed

Basic Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in Applied Physics, Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Chemical or Computer Engineering, or related degree field
  • A minimum of 5 years of engineering experience in product development design and release with a minimum of 2 years of propulsion systems experience
  • Demonstrated experience leading collaborative and global teams
  • Understanding of typical automotive manufacturing and quality processes
  • Advanced English language skills 90% (Read and Write).
  • Functional knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
  • Excellent work ethic, organization skills, and communication skills

  • Experience with Design Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (DFMEA).
  • Experience with Design Verification Plan & Report (DVP&R)
  • Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Master's degree in an engineering related field
  • Design for Six Sigma certification
