Nutrition Assistant II

The Champaign-Urbana Public Health District (CUPHD) is seeking to fill a full-time (37.5-hour week) Nutrition Assistant II position for the WIC program in the Maternal and Child Health Management division.

Duties and Responsibilities include:


  • Collect and document participant anthropometric measurements (e.g. heights, weights), blood samples (finger stick), breastfeeding information, and health and nutrition information.
  • Complete and document nutrition education contacts with program participants.
  • Review nutrition risk factors; determine if nutrition risk is low-risk or high-risk.
  • Provide basic, low-risk nutrition education and breastfeeding counseling and support.
  • Tailor and distribute program food benefits to low-risk clients; schedule next appointments.
  • Provide an explanation of nutrition program's purpose related to nutritionally relevant and tailored food benefits, explain use of program benefits in community.
  • Collect and document participant assessment information in data management system(s).
  • Provide required referrals to the Nutrition Coordinator or designated Nutritionist for high risk and complex nutrition and breastfeeding problems.
  • Participate in department trainings as appropriate for role and responsibilities (e.g. counseling, risk factor, and life cycle nutrition trainings).
  • Public Health Emergency Response Responsibilities: All District employees must be able to respond to public health emergencies when needed and appropriate. During an emergency response, employee may be assigned to a role in either operations, logistics, or administration by the Incident Commander and/or Section Chief in addition to regular duties.
  • Performs other duties as required


Requirements:


  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Graduation from a recognized program in practical nursing and a current and unrestricted licensure for practical nursing in the State of Illinois; or
  • Dietetic student - An individual who has not yet completed a bachelor's degree in an accredited nutrition program, and/or hours of supervised practice and/or passed the national exam; or
  • Individual holding a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Successful completion of the initial National Nutrition Certification Program (NNCP) or other Department approved specialized nutrition training with a passing score (80%) and thereafter every three (3) years.
  • A valid driver's license, dependable transportation, and proof of automobile insurance is required.

The expected hourly is $20.24 ($39,462 annually). Full hourly range for Class 4 Nutrition Assistant II is $20.24 - $27.32 for a 40-hour week.
