The Department of Mathematics ( https://math.ecu.edu/) is one of the fifteen departments of the Thomas Harriot College of Arts and Sciences at East Carolina University and offers the BA, BS, and MA degrees in mathematics. Faculty in the department hold doctoral degrees from top universities and engage in research and publication. As a department, we serve a wide range of students-from those fulfilling their general education requirements to graduate students in mathematics-and are committed to helping all of them reach their mathematical goals. To achieve this, the department administers and staffs several physical spaces and is transitioning to a Problems Based Learning approach to College Algebra. Job Duties
East Carolina University, Greenville, NC, invites applications for a Teaching Instructor or Teaching Assistant Professor or Teaching Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics, beginning August 2026. A typical teaching load consists of 4 courses (12 credit hours) per semester. The successful candidate will focus on teaching mathematics and/or statistics courses at the undergraduate level in an accessible manner, taking advantage of the various student success initiatives available at ECU. Service to the university, community, and profession is expected. This non-tenure-track position is for the Fall and Spring semesters of 2026-2027 academic year only, with the possibility of subsequent appointments.

Contingent upon availability of funding.
Minimum Education/Experience
A Master's degree or higher and 18 graduate-level credit hours in Mathematics, Statistics or closely related fields, appropriate to the area of instruction, is required for appointment as Teaching Instructor. In addition to the requirements for Teaching Instructor, a terminal degree in Mathematics, Statistics, or closely related fields, appropriate to the area of instruction, is required for consideration for appointment as Teaching Assistant Professor or Teaching Associate Professor.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
College teaching experience is preferred. We prefer the successful candidate to have a demonstrated record of effective teaching of mathematics.
