Overview

Orrick is seeking a Senior Client Development Manager. This US-based position can be based out of any Orrick office.

The Objective: We're seeking a strategic client development professional to serve on our Client Development team. In this role, you will work closely with firm partners to drive client relationship growth for Orrick's institutional clients. You'll lead initiatives to expand relationships by understanding our clients' business and legal priorities, developing and executing client growth plans, delivering tailored thought leadership, driving strategic client events, and supporting high-impact, cross-practice projects. You'll bring a hands-on, proactive approach, exceptional client interface skills, and a relentless focus on operational improvement and innovation.

You'll work closely with:

  • Orrick's Client Development team
  • Business Development teams (Sector & Markets, Pitch & Pursuits, Events, Operations)
  • Firm-wide teams (Innovation, Pricing, Market Intelligence, Communications, Talent), and
  • Report to the Associate Director of Client Development

Responsibilities

Your Focus:

Client Portfolio Management & Client Team Support

  • Deepen market and client knowledge to support client teams and identify opportunities
  • Develop and lead strategic client growth plans for top-tier clients
  • Infuse client insights into pitches and RFPs, collaborating across BD teams
  • Assist in the design and execution of high-touch client events
  • Monitor industry news and synthesize competitive intelligence into opportunities
  • Deliver targeted thought leadership and legal/business training proposals
  • Conduct financial analysis to guide strategy around client relationships
  • Proactively identify trends, new business opportunities, and measure ROI on client activities and investments
  • Support introduction of lateral partners and succession planning for client teams
  • Leverage client data to strengthen connections and facilitate strategic introductions
  • Organize and participate in regular client team meetings, including agenda creation and follow-up
  • Maintain client team materials (relationship summaries, client plans, financial analysis, value reports)
  • Build relationships with clients and serve as key contact where appropriate

Special Projects

  • Collaborate closely with our Associate Director of Client Development and BD leadership to engage in client listening and continually improve client service
  • Design scalable client offerings that differentiate Orrick from peer firms
  • Leverage the firm's CRM platform and other internal tools to maximize client impact
  • Leverage sector insights across other clients and BD teams to further drive cross-practice opportunities

Qualifications

  • 8+ years' experience in law firm, legal services, or professional services marketing
  • JD or MBA preferred, but not required
  • Proven client relationship and service leadership experience focused on business growth
  • Skilled at working with and presenting to senior leaders
  • Strong track record in project management, client service, communications, and cross-team collaboration
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and time management skills
  • Outstanding written (business and technical) and verbal communication abilities
  • Strategic thinker and problem solver with exceptional attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, projects, and priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment-maintaining composure and professionalism
  • High sense of accountability and ownership of projects
  • Proactive, solutions-oriented approach to work and client service
  • Absolute trustworthiness, confidentiality, and discretion; superb consistent judgement
  • Collaborative mindset with proven ability to adapt quickly to change and exhibit a high degree of flexibility
  • Self-confident without being self-important; intellectually curious, thoughtful, considerate, and decent
  • Willingness to travel as needed
  • Solid understanding of business development processes, technology platforms (including CRM), and emerging technologies for client retention and growth
  • Knowledge of key client account management best practices

Compensation and Benefits

The expected salary range for this position is:

  • New York City, Silicon Valley, and San Francisco $162,000 - $243,000
  • Washington DC, Los Angeles, Orange County, Santa Monica, Sacramento, Boston, and Seattle $147,000 - $210,000
  • All Other US Locations $137,000 - $200,000

Orrick is committed to providing a comprehensive, competitive, and thoughtful total compensation package to our attorneys and staff, wherever they work. This compensation and benefits information is based on the Orrick's estimate as of the date of publication and may be modified in the future. The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include, but not limited to, qualifications, relevant experience or education, particular skills or expertise, geography. Other compensation may include an annual discretionary merit bonus, which would be determined by Firm and individual performance.
