Job Overview

The Translation Specialist facilitates the completion of quality translations of medical documents and other written materials as requested by departments at Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO). The position is responsible for ensuring that translations are consistent with CHCO's accepted language and terminology policies. The Specialist communicates regularly with requesting departments and outside translation vendors. The Specialist manages the queue of translation requests to ensure requests are prioritized and completed in a timely manner.

Duties & Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all the following essential functions. These examples do not include all the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.

  • 1. Translates, edits, proofreads documents into identified language(s).
    2. Ensures that translations are sensitive to culture and message of the source languages and target languages during the translation process.
    3. Utilizes industry best practices, techniques, and standards throughout entire translation project execution.
    4. Follows quality standards in translations as determined by the department in addition to ensuring legal and ethical obligations to the requestors.
    5. Maintains and develops terminology glossary and language style guide within department translation memory resources and department databases and style guides.
    6. Manages and monitors internal translations request platform (SharePoint) to ensure translations are prioritized and completed in a timely manner.
    7. Maintains stakeholder communication on translation requests.
    8. Collaborates with the Translation Memory software vendor as needed.
    9. Manages relationship and communication with outsourcing translation vendor ensure quality, deadlines, and stylistic consistency are maintained.
    10. Reviews, edits, and proofreads translations done by internal and external stakeholders to ensure quality and stylistic consistency.
    11. Assists the department manager in completing assessments on ongoing training and overall translation processes.
    12. Participates in department programs or assigned projects as applicable.
    13. Educates and guides team members to advance cultural understanding and best practices to advance health literacy and organizational consistency.

SCOPE & LEVEL
Guidelines: Fully qualified, full performance or journey level. Guidelines are generally but not always clearly applicable, requiring the employee to exercise judgment in selecting the most pertinent guideline, interpret precedents, adapt standard practices to differing situations, and recommend alternative actions in situations without precedent.
Complexity: Duties assigned are generally complex and may be of substantial intricacy. Work assignment is performed within an established framework under general instructions but requires simultaneous coordination of assigned functions or projects in various stages of completion.
Decision Making: Exercises judgment and discretion, and is responsible for determining the time, place and sequence of the work performed.
Communications: Contacts with team members, clients or the public where explanatory or interpretive information is exchanged, defended, and gathered and discretion and judgment are required within the parameters of the job function.
Supervision Received: Performs work with minimal supervisory oversight. Under general supervision, the employee receives assignments and is expected to carry them through to completion with substantial independence. Work is reviewed for adherence to instructions, accuracy, completeness, and conformance to standard practice or precedent. Recurring work clearly covered by guidelines may or may not be reviewed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Degrees
    • Bachelor's
  • Area of Study
    • Translation Studies, Linguistics, relevant language or a related field
  • Experience
    • Three (3) years of translation experience, specifically in medical contexts; Experience across the translation continuum, including translation, editing, and proofing/Quality Assurance
    • MemoQ or other translation software preferred
  • Equivalency
    • Year-for-year experience may be substituted for educational requirements; American Translators Association Certification may also be substituted for educational requirements

Scheule/Shift

  • 40hrs FT
  • M-F (8 hour shifts)

Salary Information
Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.

Hourly Range: $25.70 to $38.55
