The Medical College of Wisconsin's Multispecialty Hospitalist APP Fellowship Program is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant toprovide primary medical care within the inpatient setting. This position is located in Milwaukee, WI at Froedtert Hospital. TheAdvanced Practice Provider(APP) Fellow works as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team who will contribute to excellence in program administration, patient care, patient safety, research, quality improvement, and teaching.

Position Highlights:
  • The Medical College of Wisconsin's postgraduate fellowship programs provide a structured clinical and professional education to foster growth.

  • The Multispecialty Hospitalist APP fellowship is an innovative one-year training program that teaches APP fellows to become highly skilled in the multidisciplinary, collaborative, and evidence-based management of complex and challenging patients in the inpatient setting.

  • The curriculum is composed of multi-modal learning opportunities that may include the following: in-person didactics, online classrooms, simulation, proctored procedures and/or mentored clinical rotations.

  • The APP fellow will have a strong foundation in evidence-based practice and ensure an environment of safe, quality care.

  • The Multispecialty Hospitalist APP fellow will have a variety of experiences caring for patients on both medical and surgical primary services within the inpatient environment.

  • The Multispecialty Hospitalist APP fellow will work at Froedtert Hospital main campus.

  • The Multispecialty Hospitalist APP fellow reports to Andrea Bequest, PA-C, program manager.

Schedule:
  • 1.0 FTE (full time)

  • Salaried (exempt)

  • APP fellows receive compensation during the program. APP fellow salary is $75,000 and paid out as per MCW standard. Taxes and deductions apply.

  • Typical schedule: An average of 40-45 clinical hours per week mirroring the APP schedule of the speciality they are rotating with.

  • Weekend and/or holiday requirements: May require nights, weekends, and holidays depending on the APP schedule they are mirroring during rotations.

  • On call: None

  • Ability to pick up extra shifts: may inquire about this.

Program Highlights:
  • The Multispecialty Hospitalist APP fellow will have an opportunity to rotate with multiple primary services at Froedtert Hospital main campus caring for complex medical and surgical patients, as well as a wide variety of electives participating in consulting services for those patients. All rotations are in the inpatient environment.

  • Fellows will have core rotations in Hospitalist Days and Nights, Perioperative Medicine, Cardiology, Hematology/Oncology, and Acute Care Surgery or Vascular Surgery, and possible elective rotations in Diabetes Management Team, Nephrology, Palliative Care, Critical Care, Infectious Disease, and Neurohospitalist providing specialty health care services within defined scope of practice in collaboration with a licensed physician and in accordance with MCW/FMLH policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

Preferred Experience:

  • Zero years of experience required.

  • The APP fellowship programs are open to new grad or experienced APPs.

Minimum Education:

  • Advanced Practice Nurse: Master's Degree or higher in Nursing from a nationally accredited organization.

  • Physician Assistant: Bachelor's Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies from an ARC-PA-accredited organization.

Minimum Requirements:

Advanced Practice Nurse/ Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner

  • Wisconsin Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber License

  • Wisconsin RN License

Certification Requirements:

  • American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)

  • Nurse Practitioner Certification from a nationally accredited professional nursing organization

  • Adult-Gerontology Acute Care NP (AGACNP)

  • Adult-Gerontology Primary Care NP (AGPCNP) with 1 year of inpatient clinical experience

  • Family NP (FNP) with 1 year of inpatient clinical experience

Physician Assistant

  • Wisconsin Physician Assistant License

  • Certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)

Certification Requirements:

  • American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)

Training required in the first six months:
  • Fundamentals of Critical Care Support (FCCS)

  • Society of Critical Care Medicine Virtual Modules

  • Society of Hospital Medicine Virtual Modules
