What to Expect
Tesla is hiring a Maintenance & Reliability Engineer to ensure optimal equipment performance and reliability in a high-volume manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will lead maintenance strategies, leverage data analytics, and implement advanced diagnostic tools to minimize downtime and maximize operational efficiency. Responsibilities include conducting root cause analyses, designing proactive maintenance programs, and managing asset lifecycles. The position requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement and cost-effective solutions. The engineer will also oversee the integration of cutting-edge technologies to monitor and enhance equipment reliability.
What You'll Do
- Conduct root cause analyses (RCA) on equipment failures using tools like FMEA, fishbone diagrams, and data-driven methodologies to identify patterns and prevent recurrence
- Analyze historical maintenance logs, sensor data, and IoT device outputs to predict potential failures and recommend proactive interventions
- Design, implement, and optimize preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance programs to reduce unplanned downtime
- Manage the entire asset lifecycle, from acquisition to decommissioning, including cost-benefit analyses for repairs, replacements, or upgrades
- Deploy technologies such as vibration analysis, thermography, oil analysis, and ultrasonic testing to monitor equipment health in real time
- Lead condition monitoring programs to detect early signs of wear, corrosion, or mechanical stress and prioritize corrective actions
- Prepare detailed reports and executive summaries on reliability improvements, cost savings, and ROI of maintenance initiatives for management review
- Collaborate with engineering teams to design and retrofit equipment for enhanced reliability and maintainability
- Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., ISO, OSHA) and internal quality protocols during maintenance and repair activities
What You'll Bring
- Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience
- 3+ years of experience in manufacturing maintenance, reliability engineering, or a related field
- Proficiency in failure analysis tools (FMEA, RCA) and data analysis techniques
- Strong understanding of maintenance management systems (CMMS) and predictive maintenance methodologies
- Familiarity with condition monitoring technologies (vibration analysis, thermography, etc.)
- Experience with IoT-enabled sensors and data visualization tools (e.g., SCADA, MES)
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Strong communication skills to present technical findings to non-technical stakeholders
- Certifications in reliability engineering (CRE), maintenance management (CMM), or related disciplines are a plus
- Ability to work independently and lead cross-functional projects from concept to execution
