Details

The University of Iowa Driving Safety Research Institute (DSRI) is seeking a qualified Temporary Research Assistant to support a research study involving alcohol impairment and standardized field sobriety testing. This position requires prior law enforcement experience and current SFST proficiency. The successful candidate will contribute to data collection, participant interaction, and adherence to research protocols within a controlled study environment.

Minimum Qualifications



  • Two or more years of law enforcement experience.
  • Completion of Standardized Field Sobriety Test (SFST) training
  • At least two SFSTs conducted within the past 12 months.
  • Ability to work extended shifts (approximately 12 hours).
  • Availability for a 1-4 month temporary appointment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.


Desirable Qualifications



  • Experience working in research, data collection, or human subjects studies.
  • Familiarity with IRB protocols or research ethics training (e.g., CITI certification).


Key Responsibilities



  • Administer or observe multiple standardized field sobriety tests (SFSTs) for up to three study participants per day as part of DSRI research protocols.
  • Record observations and maintain accurate, detailed documentation.
  • Collaborate with faculty, investigators, research staff, and study participants.
  • Ensure compliance with safety procedures and research guidelines.
  • Perform additional researchrelated duties as assigned.


Compensation will vary depending on the number of scheduled participants (up to three per day). Weekly schedules may shift depending on participant and staff availability.
