Overview:

We are seeking aSeniorNuclearInstrumentation & ControlsSoftwareEngineerto jointheInstrumentation and Control Software EngineeringGroup withintheResearch Reactors Division(RRD) atOak Ridge National Lab(ORNL).

The Instrumentation and Control Software Engineering Groupis responsible fortheHigh Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR) configuration management program. This group also provides technical support to operations and maintenance and performs systems analysis.

Asa SeniorInstrumentation&ControlsSoftwareEngineer you willbe responsible forthe design, development, implementation, and maintenance of the division's software-based Industrial Control Systems (ICS) throughout the entire system development life cycle, including configuration control, software quality assurance, and cyber security. Additionally, you will ensure conformance to software requirements through effective software quality assurance activities, providing the basis for planning, implementing,maintaining, andoperatingthe software being developed as well as ensureappropriate operationalsecurity posture ismaintainedfor all ICS on matters involving cyber security. This position will function asa cognizantsystem engineer for the assigned HFIR plant systems in the HFIR System Engineering Programin accordance withDOE O 420.1 for the hazard category 1 nuclear facility and shall be qualified as a HFIR System Engineer in the RRD Training Program.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Lead engineering activities for assigned systems, ensuring alignment with safety, regulatory, and project requirements.

  • Prepareengineering designs for new installations and for replacement and upgrade of reactor structures, systems, and components.

  • Ensure compliance with and provide guidance on applicable codes and standards (DOE, ASME, ICC, IEEE).

  • Serve as technical lead for installation, testing, and commissioning of design changes.

  • Implement modificationsin accordance withnuclear configuration control processes.

  • Review andmaintainas-built documentation, ensuring accuracy and configuration control.

  • Lead troubleshooting and root causeanalysis anddrive corrective actions.

  • Provide senior technical support and mentorship to engineers and craft personnel.

  • Analyze and trend equipment performance, recommending reliability and lifecycle improvements.

  • Position requires some physical activity (carrying lightweight items, climbing ladders, etc.).

  • Position requires Radiological Worker II and Qualified Electrical Worker 2 training.

  • Follow environmental, safety, health, and quality program requirements to promote a safe working environment.

Basic Qualifications:

  • ABS in electrical engineering, computer science, or related field and a minimum of10years of relevant experience.

  • Extensive experience in electrical, instrumentation & control, or digital control systems, including system analysis, design, and maintenance.

  • Advanced experience with PLC-based control systems.

  • Working knowledge ofservers, networking components, common protocols, and databases.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and interpret requirements and technical specifications.

  • Strong understanding of software quality assurance principles and processes.

  • Proficiencywith Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven ability in hardware/softwareintegration.

  • Tenor more years of experience with electrical, instrumentation and control, or digital control systems at a nuclear facility.

  • Experience with HMI/SCADA control systems software including Allen-Bradley ControlLogix,Rockwell FactoryTalk Suite, GE iFIX/iHistorian, and Visual Basic.

  • Experience with administration of historians, web-based clients, and SQL databases.

  • Experience with virtual machine and thin client technology.

  • Experience with AutoCAD.

  • Experience with cybersecurity / firewalls.

Special Requirements:

  • Work involves some physical requirements and working conditions. As such, a pre-hire physical will berequiredafter offer.

  • This position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
