DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will perform diagnostic work, preventative maintenance, and mechanical repairs on a wide range of equipment, including construction machinery, trucks, and gasoline or diesel-powered vehicles. You will service multiple system types, complete state inspections, maintain accurate work records, and ensure that all equipment remains safe, reliable, and ready for operation. A strong commitment to safety, attention to detail, and the ability to determine proper repair procedures for heavy equipment are essential for success in this position.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform diagnostic evaluations and mechanical repairs on construction equipment, trucks, and gasoline or diesel-powered vehicles.
- Complete preventative maintenance to ensure safe and efficient equipment operation.
- Service hydraulic, electrical, heating, cooling, and exhaust systems, as well as manual and automatic transmissions.
- Conduct state vehicle inspections for all applicable equipment.
- Accurately complete work orders and record time spent on each task.
- Report equipment damage or incidents promptly to maintain operational integrity.
- Identify correct repair procedures for heavy machinery and perform necessary mechanical adjustments.
- Maintain a safe working environment for yourself, coworkers, and equipment operators.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Work hours are subject to change based upon seasonal requirements and operational needs.
- Some travel, overtime, and shift work may be required.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Successful completion of the commonwealth's Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
- Must possess an active Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- This position requires possession of an active Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations on the first day of employment.
- This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day or employment.
- This position requires the employee to obtain a tanker endorsement within the probationary period.
- Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
Additional Requirements:
- This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
