The term Graduate Assistant is the umbrella term that encompasses all types of GA appointments. Graduate Assistants are employed by the University to teach, conduct research, or assist with administrative duties in departments and non-academic units. Every attempt is made to assign Graduate Assistants to positions that are directly related to the student's field of study or that provide the opportunity to develop transferable, professional skills. Graduate Assistantships are assigned in the department or unit and confirmed by the Graduate School. |

Department/Office Mission:
The Office of Intercultural Engagement (
OIE) creates and delivers co-curricular programs to bring all students together for the purpose of deepening and broadening awareness, knowledge and skill around identity, culture, and our interconnected fate. As a unit within the Division of Student Affairs,
OIE contributes to the academic mission of
UNC Greensboro by collaborating with various campus and community partners to complement and advance institutional goals.
Job Description-Reporting:
This GA will report to the Assistant Director for Diverse Student Engagement
Job Description-Job Duties and/or Responsibilities:
- Engage and support diverse student populations to improve retention and student success.
- Provide mentoring and student advising that is responsive to retention data
- Build an active network of support for students
- Encourage students to engage with existing programs and services that support student success
- Assist with assessment and evaluation efforts for diverse student engagement initiatives (i.e. conduct surveys and other methods of data collection); Analyze and maintain results and develop reports to inform the direction of future programs.
- Promote the office mission and programs via presentations and information table at university events, including but not limited to: Fall Kickoff, Welcome Week, Admissions events and SOAR.
- Provide on-site staffing and support for OIE programs/events when needed.
- Participate in OIE staff meetings, Division of Student Affairs meetings, and other department/division committees as needed.
- Complete other tasks as assigned.
Work Hours, Environment:
- 20 hours per week (some evenings and weekends)
- Will have dedicated workstation in the Office of Intercultural Engagement while working with students, staff and faculty partners throughout UNCG's campus.
Additional Terms of Employment:
Must be able to adhere to the attendance policy and other guidelines for graduate assistants established by The Graduate School at
UNC-Greensboro.
