Job Description
The Coordinator for First Year Engagement and Leadership Programs will support the achievement of the College's vision of serving as a regional leader in education and workforce development, offering transformative programs that drive individual growth and shared prosperity. The Coordinator works collaboratively with the Director to manage the administration, implementation, budget, and assessment of student development programs designed to foster student engagement and retention in a welcoming and inclusive campus community. This position ensures that programmatic efforts align with the mission and strategic plan of the College, the Student Affairs Division, and the Office of Student Life ( OSL). The Coordinator assumes decision-making and leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Director.
The Coordinator leads programming initiatives to deliver student-centered opportunities that foster belonging, engagement, and success from orientation through completion/transfer. In addition, the Coordinator collaborates and coordinates with various campus stakeholders to create, assess, and facilitate co-curricular First Year Experience programming. Additionally, the Coordinator will design leadership programming in various modalities, including the creation and implementation a micro-credential-based process for leadership skill development recognition.
In collaboration with Enrollment Management and Student Development offices, the Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of in-person New Student Orientation events for the fall and spring semesters. This position chairs the New Student Orientation workgroup to oversee project management, including curriculum development, assessment, and logistics. Additionally, the Coordinator is responsible for the recruitment, hiring, supervision, and training of a large team of student employees.
The Coordinator serves as the liaison for key campus partnerships, such as the integration of intentional service-learning participation into the Honors Program, coordination of grant-funded or sponsored programs and initiatives, purposeful partnership with the SOAR ASAP program to support participants, and contributing to the college-wide First Year Experience, as well as other various internal and external committees, groups, organizations, and professional associations.
Additionally, the Coordinator advises student organizations, chaperones off-campus student travel (including overnight travel), supports large and small-scale OSL programming efforts, and represents OSL at college-wide or recruitment events.
This is an exempt, professional staff position, reporting to the Director for Student Life.

Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia; non-residents are expected to relocate to meet this requirement.

Required Education
Master's degree in Student Affairs, College Student Personal Administration, or Higher Education Administration
Required Experience

  • Minimum of three years experience in Student Life, Residence Life, or Orientation to include handling student activities, event planning experience, budget management, and assessment
  • Minimum of one year of supervisory experience

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent time management
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred Qualifications

  • Work experience at a community college
  • Experience advising student organizations
  • Experience working with a CRM
  • Understanding of FERPA and Title IX
  • Bilingual-English/Spanish
  • Experience working with Canva or digital design software

Hours per Week 40 - 100%
General Weekly Work Schedule
Generally Monday-Friday
Must be flexible to work evenings and weekends as needed, including active participation in student events, commencement ceremonies, and chaperoning students on day and overnight trips
