Overview

The Senior Manager, Middle Mile Linehaul and Carrier Development is responsible for optimizing AIT's Middle Mile transportation network through effective linehaul planning, carrier performance management, and capacity development. This role ensures reliable, costeffective, and scalable transportation solutions by partnering closely with contracted carriers, monitoring network performance, and executing process improvements that enhance service quality and operational efficiency.

The Senior Manager, Middle Mile Linehaul and Carrier Development, serves as a subject-matter expert in linehaul strategy and carrier operations, analyzing network needs, identifying capacity risks, and recommending proactive solutions. While the position operates with autonomy in daytoday decisionmaking, major operational changes, carrier escalations, or strategic adjustments are reviewed and approved through collaboration with Middle Mile Network leadership.


Responsibilities


    Carrier Development & Performance Management Across Any Mode of Road Transportation
    * Build strong relationships with core carriers through structured reviews and performance scorecards
    * Oversee carrier onboarding, SOP alignment, and compliance to ensure consistent service quality
    * Manage tender acceptance, service reliability, and capacity commitments

  • Linehaul Network Optimization
    * Design and refine linehaul schedules based on service standards, demand forecasts, and HUB sort windows by any road mode of transportation
    * Conduct scenario modeling to evaluate schedule changes, relay optimization, and utilization strategies
    * Balance cost, service, and capacity to improve overall network efficiency
  • Network Performance Analysis
    * Track and own KPIs such as on-time performance, cost per mile, trailer utilization, and exception rates
    * Perform root cause analysis and drive corrective actions and continuous improvement
    * Use data-driven insights to optimize cost and performance balance
  • Management of Transportation Budget
    * Lead contract negotiations using techniques such as multiround competitive bidding and RFIs
    * Manage crossfunctional teams in the execution of procurement strategies
    * Maintain the highest ethical standards in accordance with AIT's policies
  • Real-Time Operational Control & Recovery
    * Manage exceptions such as late linehauls, no-shows, and weather-related delays
    * Execute recovery playbooks, including re-routing, re-powering, and rescheduling
    * Protect customer service levels through proactive communication and contingency actions
  • Leadership: Training and Development of Direct and Indirect Reports
  • Support network optimization and daily execution by addressing service disruptions and implementing targeted performance improvements
  • Provide data driven operational insights and recommendations to Road leadership to support service, cost and efficiency goals
  • Assist with carrier performance management, compliance oversight, and adherence toto safety and operational standards
  • Contribute to SOP refinements, standarized processes, and identification of transportation cost reduction opportunities
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education
* Some College/Associate's Degree in Transportation and Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or related field (required)

Experience
* 10+ years in Carrier Performance Management, Transportation and Logistics, or related experience (required)

* 3+ years Experience in LTL, FTL, or multilocation transportation networks (required)

* 3+ years In-depth expertise managing budgets, EBITDA performance, operational problem-solving, and customer service in a high-volume logistics setting (required)

* 3+ years Application of industry and DOT regulatory requirements including Hours of Service (HOS) and hazardous materials requirements (required)

* 3+ years Participation in competitive bidding processes ethically and impartially for road providers across modes of transportation (required)

* 3+ years Demonstrated experience of project and program management methodologies with the ability to implement practical, solution-driven strategies (preferred)

* 3+ years Experience with scheduled linehaul planning, carrier management, or network operations (preferred)

* 3+ years Experience managing or providing operational leadership to remote teams (preferred)
