Job Summary
This is a half-time position providing technical support for the Spiro Laboratory in the Department of Biological Sciences. The technician will conduct original research in addition to providing technical and administrative support to other members of the lab.
Minimum Education and Experience
Associate degree with a minimum of two years hands on experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.
Preferred Education and Experience
A recent BS Biology graduate. Hands-on experience of microbiology and biochemistry obtained in a teaching lab environment. Experience with inventory management and data entry.
Other Qualifications
To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct independent research.
  • Assist with routine laboratory tasks as required (reagent and media preparation, glassware washing, safe disposal of biological materials).
  • Ordering of lab chemicals and supplies.
  • Management of lab chemical inventory.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
