However, any non-permanent employee hired to work 30 or more hours per week for three months or more (cumulative of all positions, and not designated as variable hour worker), must be offered the chance to enroll in the High Deductible Health Plan, within 30 days of their eligibility. Any non-permanent employee hired to work less than 30 hours per week (cumulative of all positions, or designated as variable hour worker - i.e. student workers) are measured during designated measurement periods. | Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: |
- Experience teaching or mentoring high school students; previous living and or working on a college campus.
- Strong preference for candidates with camp leadership or experience chaperoning minors in travel programs.

| Duties and Responsibilities |
- The primary responsibility of counselors is to work cooperatively with other counselors and program staff to maintain a safe and positive learning environment for the program students.
- Conduct unannounced weekly room inspections to ensure cleanliness and prevent property damage. Manage nightly curfew and "lights-out" procedures. Enforce the check-in/check-out system to always ensure 100% accountability of student locations.
- Counselors are expected to be on duty when students check- in the dorm on the day of arrival (Sunday), and chaperone students on field trips during their shift.
- Counselors will provide a liaison between the academic activities of the program and the residence life components. These activities and components include attendance at academic classes to which students under your direction are assigned.
- Counselors are always responsible for keeping the Director and/or Head Residence Counselor informed of any issues, discrepancies, and emergencies encountered among staff and/or students.

All counselors are required to become "Approved"
UNC Charlotte van drivers. To become an "Approved" van driver, all counselors must ( 1) have a valid N.C. Driver's license; (2) successfully pass (no more than 4 incorrect answers) an online exam on van driving procedures.
