Parks Crew Leader - Irrigation

Summary

Responsible for designing, installing, inspecting, and troubleshooting irrigation controllers and systems for the Parks facilities.Also responsible for overseeing and operating the computerized irrigation system.

Salary Range: $19.92 - $24.96 (Depending on experience and qualifications)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Oversee the maintenance of irrigation systems by operating the necessary equipment, including hand tools and heavy equipment.

  • Perform testing and repair work on irrigation systems.

  • Trace and repair wiring issues, troubleshoot control panel malfunctions and repair irrigation pump as needed.

  • Repair and/or replace PVC piping when it is leaking. Inspect backflow devices using calibrated gauges and rebuild devices to meet rules, regulations and standards.

  • Conduct irrigation training classes and crew safety classes in regard to industry standards and practices.

  • Maintain and take care of tools and equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)

  • 4 years related experience

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Qualifications

Education/ Experience:

  • 4-6 years of experience in irrigation installation and repairs, backflow installation and repairs, and controller maintenance

  • Backflow License preferred, not required

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of principles and practices of installing and maintaining irrigation systems

  • Extensive knowledge of grounds maintenance

  • Extensive knowledge of backflow inspections and maintenance

  • Skill in math sufficient to figure pipe flows, pipe sizing, friction losses, run times, systems efficiency, spacing, and head selections

  • Skill operating tractors, backhoes, and utility scooters

  • Skill operating hand tools, irrigation tools, and voltmeters

  • Ability to perform troubleshooting of controllers, electric valves, and field wiring

Licenses and Certifications

  • Texas Commission on Environmental Quality issued Irrigation

  • License or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire

  • Valid Class C Texas driver's license

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

The incumbent works with frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Majority of work performed outside or with exposure to risk. May be exposed to extremes of heat and cold, rain, humidity, wetness, insects, noxious odors, fumes, and physical stress from exertion and lifting. Exposed to physical exertion such as bending, lifting, stooping, reaching, pulling, and pushing. Ability to lift 50 pounds.
