We are seeking an experienced Senior/Principal Agile Product Owner to drive the realization of new capabilities across our organization through strong product ownership and agile leadership. In this dual-capacity role, you will blend software/architecture expertise with product ownership responsibilities to modernize service delivery, expand digital engineering capabilities, and introduce innovative solutions.

In this role, you will act as the bridge between stakeholders and a development team, ensuring that business priorities are translated into actionable deliverables aligned with strategic goals.

You will work closely with diverse stakeholders, including architects, program managers, federal customers, and development teams, to ensure timely delivery of secure, scalable, and forward-looking capabilities that support the nuclear weapons lifecycle and broader mission objectives.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Own and refine the product backlog, balancing stakeholder priorities with technical feasibility and team capacity
  • Drive discovery and validation work during the incubation period to surface viable long-term projects that align with strategic goals and work with the Program Manager to secure future funding.
  • Translate validated concepts into clear, outcome-focused roadmaps and release plans
  • Facilitate story grooming, sprint planning, reviews, and acceptance criteria to maintain predictable delivery
  • Track and communicate progress, risks, and outcomes to leadership and funding stakeholders
  • Identify opportunities for automation and innovation that integrate with existing and new platforms including cloud architectures
  • Foster strong relationships across business and technical stakeholders within Sandia and the NSE, championing continuous improvement and agile best practices

*This position offers hybrid work arrangements, with the expectation that you live within reasonable commuting distance for onsite needs as required.

About Our Team

The Science and Engineering Information Systems (SEIS) organization is a highly integrated team of departments focused on delivering software and system solutions that impact Sandias mission-critical programs. Join one of our dynamic teams described below within the Product Realization Integrated Digital Enterprise (PRIDE) program, where innovation and collaboration drive the modernization of information management capabilities across the Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE).

BOSS Team

The BOSS team is a small, experienced Agile delivery group responsible for supporting and maintaining two custom O&M applications with ongoing feature development and operational fixes. The team includes six developers and a Scrum Master. The Agile Product Owner will lead backlog prioritization, drive discovery work in the PRIDE Incubation Lab to identify fundable long-term projects and transition the team to execute those projects using Agile practices.

IDEAS Team

The IDEAS team is an innovative full-stack development team supporting Nuclear Deterrence application development across the NSE. The team manages projects using Java, Spring Boot, Angular, GitLab CI/CD, OpenShift, Software Assurance, and COTS. Current efforts include evaluating COTS Identity and Access Management solutions in cloud environments, maintaining custom services, and piloting new technologies. The Agile Product Owner will manage the product backlog, multi-year roadmap, and sprint priorities, driving discovery and execution to support future funding and mission needs.

Posting Duration

This posting will be open for application submissions for a minimum of three (3) calendar days, including the 'posting date'. Sandia reserves the right to extend the posting date at any time.

Security Clearance

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.

EEO

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status and any other protected class under state or federal law.

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
