Position Title: Phlebotomist II

Work Location: MD - Columbia - 5450 Knoll North Drive Floating based on staffing needs. Floating to Columbia and Ellicott City and Elkridge

Training and orientation will be at 5450 Knoll North Drive Suite 150 Columbia MD

Assignment Duration: 3+ Months

Work Schedule: 6:30am-6:00PM varies M-F

Work Arrangement: Onsite


Position Summary

The Phlebotomist II is responsible for performing a variety of assigned duties including specimen collection, troubleshooting, training, and workflow recommendations in a fast-paced clinical environment.


Background & Context

We are looking for at least two years of Phlebotomy experience. Their main duties are drawing blood and processing. They will be floating so they must have a reliable vehicle, a valid drivers license, and a good driving record (MVR). They must be able to draw on all age groups including pediatrics.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge samples, and record maintenance data.
  • Collect and store specimens following established procedures.
  • Explain venipuncture and specimen collection processes clearly and courteously to patients.
  • Demonstrate proficiency using straight needles and butterfly needles.
  • Review and understand physicians' orders thoroughly.
  • Match laboratory requisition forms with specimen tubes accurately.
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
  • Verify all test requisitions and labels for 100% accuracy.
  • Package and prepare specimens for transport.
  • Maintain specimen integrity by following temperature and handling protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations.
  • Participate in annual department training sessions.
  • Handle incoming calls and provide laboratory results as needed.


Qualifications & Experience

  • Valid Phlebotomy certification (as required by state).
  • Minimum 6 months of venipuncture experience in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
  • 2-4 years of overall experience preferred.
  • At least 2 years of blood draw experience.
  • Experience with both pediatric and geriatric patients.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.


Additional Information

  • Full-time: 40 hours/week (8 hours/day).
  • Daily workload: Depending on site, busiest site is 40 patients draw
  • Required vaccinations: MMR, Hep B (Candidate can decline Hep B), TB
  • Color vision screening required.
