Overview

Microsoft's Geo Commercial Human Resources (HR) organization is looking for a Chief of Staff to join our Strategy, Planning, and Operations team. The Chief of Staff (CoS) to the Corporate Vice President (CVP) of Geo Commercial HR plays a critical role in enabling leadership effectiveness, organizational clarity, and execution of key strategic priorities across the Commercial HR organization. This role serves as a trusted advisor and business partner to the CVP, helping translate their key priorities into action while driving alignment across a complex and globally distributed leadership team.

Our HR organization provides strategic HR partnership to our global commercial business, shaping and activating the people strategy that drives business growth. The team provides regional HR leadership, working in partnership with Engineering HR line and HR Consulting teams to collectively support more than 100,000 employees across 100+ countries spanning commercial, engineering, and data centers, and leads country level workforce governance to ensure regulatory, legal, and statutory compliance across all markets.

As a key partner to the HR leadership team, you will operate at the center of business, talent, and organizational priorities. You will lead and coordinate rhythm of business, planning cycles, leadership engagements, and cross-functional initiatives that advance our people and culture priorities in support of Microsoft's commercial business.

This role requires a unique balance of strategic thinking and operational excellence. You will be expected to anticipate needs, provide perspective with limited guidance, manage ambiguity, and create clarity in dynamic and fast-paced environments. The ideal candidate brings strong systems thinking and the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple teams, helping simplify complex priorities into clear, actionable plans that drive alignment and execution across the organization. In addition to directly supporting the CVP, this role leads a small team responsible for driving planning, communications, and operational support across the organization.

Responsibilities

Leadership Support and Strategic Planning
* Partner closely with the CVP to connect dots across the organizational strategy and priorities
* Translate leadership direction into actionable plans across HR and business stakeholders
* Drive annual and mid-year planning processes across all business management areas
* Provide insight and perspective to inform decision making and priority setting
* Anticipate risks, dependencies, and organizational impacts to support proactive execution

Rhythm of Business and Operational Excellence
* Lead end-to-end rhythm of business (ROB) for the Geo Commercial HR organization including budget management of discretionary funds and headcount requests
* Manage leadership team engagement cadence including staff meetings, offsites, all hands, and community calls in alignment with the CVP engagement model
* Ensure alignment across initiatives and deliverables through effective tracking and follow-up
* Enable execution across multiple concurrent priorities with high levels of efficiency and quality
* Identify opportunities to improve processes, systems, and organizational effectiveness

Stakeholder Engagement and Communication
* Build strong relationships across HR leadership, business partners, and corporate teams
* Facilitate cross-functional collaboration to drive alignment on shared priorities
* Partner with Communications Team to develop a CVP communication strategy including leadership messaging and engagement strategies
* Support preparation for executive engagements, internal communications, and leadership forum speaking engagements

People Leadership
* Lead and develop a small team responsible for planning, communications, and operational support
* Provide coaching and direction to ensure clarity of roles, priorities, and deliverables
* Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and outcomes-focused team environment with focused connection across the entire Strategy, Planning, and Operations (SPO) team



Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field (e.g., Liberal Arts, Business Administration, Management, Computer Science) AND 8+ years experience in financial management, business planning, operations management, strategy, project management, human resources or business-related roles OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of people management experience.
  • Experience supporting executives or leadership teams in a strategic or operational capacity
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in ambiguous environments
  • Experience leading or managing projects, programs, or organizational initiatives
  • Experience in Chief of Staff, Strategy, Business Management, or equivalent roles
  • Proven ability to balance strategic thinking with strong attention to detail
  • Systems thinker with demonstrated ability to improve organizational processes and execution
  • Relationship-building and stakeholder management skills
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated people management or team leadership experience
  • Ability to remain composed and create clarity during periods of change or complexity


Business Management M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $130,900 - $277,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $165,600 - $303,600 per year.
