Based in Phoenix, AZ, you'll be the hands behind every motor rebuild - cutting out failed windings, manufacturing precision coils, and running VPI cycles that bring AC and DC motors back to full performance. This is detail-intensive, skilled trade work on medium voltage equipment where your craftsmanship directly keeps critical operations running.

  • 1-3+ years in motor winding - AC, DC, and medium voltage experience
  • You read winding data sheets and technical drawings confidently

What You'll Do



  • Teardown & evaluation: Cut out, clean, and evaluate stators and armatures from failed AC and DC motors including medium voltage equipment; inspect core laminations and record visual and mechanical findings; remove, label, and document coils, leads, and insulation materials
  • Coil manufacturing & winding: Manufacture, form, and shape coils using appropriate winding techniques and specifications; measure, cut, and install slot paper and phase insulation per winding data sheets; install coils into stator or armature slots with proper alignment, fit, and insulation integrity
  • Connection & finishing: Tie, lace, and connect coil ends using industry-standard practices; trim, solder, and insulate leads per specifications; support mechanical assembly including bearings, endbells, and related components
  • Testing & impregnation: Perform surge and resistance testing to verify coil integrity; execute VPI cycles including setup, vacuum, and pressure stages; prepare motors for varnish processes and operate bake ovens per shop and safety standards
  • Documentation & shop standards: Accurately document test data, VPI cycle information, and quality checks; maintain winding material inventory; keep a clean, organized, and safe work environment per company standards


What You'll Need



  • Experience & Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or EET coursework preferred; 1-3+ years of motor winding experience including AC/DC and medium voltage applications
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of electrical principles, motor components, and insulation systems; ability to read and interpret winding data sheets, specifications, and technical drawings
  • Hands-On Skills: Experience with coil manufacturing, installation, and insulation processes; proficiency in surge and resistance testing; comfortable operating winding machines, bake ovens, and VPI systems; ability to use precision measuring tools including micrometers and calipers
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted; frequent standing, bending, and handling of motor components; ability to work in an industrial environment including exposure to heat, noise, and varnish fumes with proper PPE
