UC San Diego Health is a Magnet designated organization, which is a prestigious recognition that applies to only 10% of all U.S. hospitals. Magnet is the "gold standard" for nursing excellence and is based on strengths in five key areas, which include transformational leadership, structural empowerment, exemplary professional practice, new knowledge, innovation and improvements and empirical outcomes. UC San Diego Health has held its Magnet status since 2011. Under general supervision, the Nurse Practitioner will provide independent, high-complexity care for patients with liver disease, including metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), viral hepatitis, cirrhosis, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and liver transplant-related conditions. This is an experienced APP role requiring a high degree of clinical autonomy. The NP will manage a full patient panel across both in-person and telehealth settings, perform comprehensive assessments, order and interpret advanced diagnostics, and develop complex care plans. The role includes triaging patient needs, coordinating care across multidisciplinary teams, and supporting access initiatives to improve patient flow and outcomes. In addition to outpatient responsibilities, the NP will provide periodic backup coverage for the inpatient hepatology service to support continuity of care across settings. The NP is expected to function as a key contributor within the hepatology program, supporting best practices, collaborating closely with the care team, and contributing to quality improvement and program development efforts. Participation in hepatology-related clinical research and protocol-driven care may also be required. While not required, a cover letter is highly recommended when applying to this position.
