Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
Founded in 1924, the Odum Institute for Research in Social Science provides training, consultation, and research support services to faculty, staff, and students across the UNC-Chapel Hill campus and beyond. Odum expands Carolina's impact by providing education and support for planning, implementing, and disseminating research. We work to advance rigorous and reproducible research across the data, social and health sciences, while building collaborative, trans-disciplinary research networks. Positioned in the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, the Institute is funded through state/university appropriations and grants/contracts led by Institute staff.
Position Summary
The TA (Zoom co-host) will meet with the instructor at the start of the day to go over any logistics for the course (breakout rooms, polling, timing of breaks, etc). Test screen sharing to make sure instructor is ready for presentation for audience. The waiting room is opened by the TA to allow in registrants and start taking attendance. The TA will start the course with an introduction script. Once the course is started, the TA will need to do the following in assisting the course instructor:

* Watch for hands up that don't get answered
* Be aware of technology blips (a bunch of attendees fall off suddenly)
* Timekeeper for breaks OR specific instructor needs
* Communication go-between w/ students
* Tracking people who need help (tech, Q&A, etc.), make sure they get what they need
* Deal with Zoom polling if needed by instructor
* Yes/no responses can be used thru Zoom
* Mute people as needed
* Coordinate w/ instructor who will set up break-out rooms
* Reminding people at end of class to please complete the online evaluation once it is emailed to them.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
