Debevoise & Plimpton LLP is a premier law firm with market-leading practices, a global perspective, and strong New York roots. Our clients rely on us to bring a distinctively high degree of quality, intensity, and creativity to resolve complex legal challenges effectively and efficiently.

We are recruiting a Senior Litigation Case Manager to play a leadership role on large-scale, multi-jurisdictional litigations. This is not a traditional support position but rather a core operational role responsible for structuring, driving, and continuously refining how complex, budget conscious matters are managed. The successful candidate will work directly with partners, senior attorneys, clients, and vendors to ensure that matters are executed in a correct and cost-effective manner.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Serving as a principal point of contact for lawyers and clients regarding logistical, operational, and case management aspects of assigned matters
  • Developing and maintaining detailed action plans, tracking systems, templates, and training materials across multiple workflows that include:
    • Court admissions, filings, and briefings
    • Discovery and document review
    • Witness preparation
    • Case management platforms
    • Status reports to clients
  • Managing discovery processes and content, including
    • Partnering with clients and case teams to help align discovery strategy with broader litigation objectives, ensuring document productions support factual and legal positions across multiple jurisdictions and related proceedings
    • Coordinating with firm lawyers, co-counsel, and joint defense groups to maintain consistency in discovery positions, production strategy, and case narratives
    • Overseeing the planning, management, and execution of document review and production workflows while being adaptable to evolving discovery needs
    • Leveraging prior document reviews, productions, and work product to streamline subsequent discovery efforts to reduce duplicative efforts
    • Anticipating future discovery demands and designing workflows that address immediate production requirements while supporting long term case strategy and operational efficiency
    • Supervising litigation service providers and ediscovery vendors, providing strategic direction, quality control, and oversight to ensure accuracy and alignment with case strategy
    • Utilizing advanced capabilities with litigation technology and processes; direct or oversee data processing, document review workflows, analytics, and production in collaboration with vendors and/or internal litigation support teams
  • Identifying and communicating potential delays or risks; working with a team to resolve or avoid issues
  • Assessing and improving processes to optimize resource allocation to align with client cost expectations without compromising quality, including by:
    • Employing technology
    • Leveraging work to lowest capable bill rate
    • Engaging vendors
  • Mentoring and developing junior lawyers and support staff

Requirements:
We seek a candidate who functions as an overall strategic project manager with a focus on discovery, including processes and content. The ideal team member is someone who takes ownership of outcomes, brings structure to ambiguity, operates with independence in a high-stakes and fast-moving environment, is comfortable engaging directly with senior stakeholders, makes judgment calls on processes, and ensures large teams remain focused and efficient.
  • Minimum of 8 experience years within a law firm or legal services environment managing complex litigations that involved large amounts of discovery
  • Ability to lead within large teams, including influencing without formal authority and developing junior team members
  • Professional level expertise with litigation software (e.g., Relativity, Opus 2) and document review workflows, including analytics and technology-assisted review
  • Proactive project management skills, including process development, defining staffing needs, identifying and resolving inefficiencies, and anticipating issues before they arise
  • Experience managing vendors and external partners, including coordination, performance oversight, and cost management
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to simplify complex information and provide clear, actionable updates to stakeholders
  • Flexibility to meet the demands of complex litigation, including travel and extended hours as needed
