CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital - New Braunfels(CSRH-NB), nestled in the heart of downtown New Braunfels, is a full-service, 94-private bed facility that continues to expand to meet the needs of New Braunfels' strong population growth. Innovative equipment and procedures areutilized, including an Outpatient Imaging Center, orthopedic and surgical services, rehabilitation, a renovated birthing center, including 24/7 neonatal coverage, emergency care, wound care/hyperbaric center, 3D mammography, and comprehensive heart care, from diagnostics toopen-heartsurgery. Summary: This subspecialty position is responsible for performing standard and complex congenital echocardiograms, stress echocardiograms, and assists physicians with transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE's). The patient population ranges from newborn to young adults. The echo sonographers must be skilled in working with pediatric patients with a wide variety of complex medical and psychosocial conditions. Must have patience and compassion to work with patients who may be ill or frightened. Must be technology-minded, detail-oriented and able to follow precise directions. Depending on department need may be asked to perform 12 and 15 lead ECG's, holter monitor hookup, cardiac event monitor hookup, and cardiac exercise treadmill testing Responsibilities: Essential Responsibilities of Echo Sonographer:
- Provides physical and developmental age appropriate care for all age groups ranging from neonate to adults with or without congenital defects. This includes implementation of safety measures and selection of appropriate equipment and supplies depending on the physical and developmental age.
- Must be able to learn and adapt to a verity of echo equipment, software, and protocols.
- Performs all routine echocardiograms for evaluation of possible abnormal heart defects or disease.
- Assists physicians with transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE's) at the bedside, cath lab, and or operating room.
- Performs stress echocardiograms.
- Notifies and communicates with physicians daily for exam interpretation.
- Retrieves and copies studies unto CD's per request.
- Assist with scheduling of all patients for any and all procedures performed in the department.
- Performs daily operational maintenance (QC) of Echo lab supply's and equipment.
- Stocks linen and supplies and ensures rooms and equipment is clean and ready throughout the day.
- Depending on department need performs 12 and 15 lead ECG's, holter monitor hookup, cardiac event monitor hookup, and participates in cardiac exercise treadmill testing.

- Perform other duties as assigned.
Major Responsibilities of Echo Sonographer I:
- Understands basic requirement for study completion, which includes measurements, and necessary calculations to assess anatomy and function of normal and heart's with congenital defects.
- Identifies indications and limitations of exam and procedures.
- Proficient in operating equipment and its functions, such as adjusting the equipment for proper settings for the study required.
- Understands physics of ultrasound, physics of blood flow and bio effects of ultrasound such as toxicity levels and fetal risk.
- Performs 2D exams and recognizes normal and common abnormal structures including complete intra and extra cardiac segmental diagnosis.
- Performs Doppler exam's and recognizes normal and abnormal patterns.
- Sets up and is able to assist the physician during TEE's with physician guidance, and has a basic understanding of normal anatomic view's
- Writes preliminary reports in a timely manner.
- Assists with orientation of new staff to the department as directed.
- Participates and attends in-services pertaining to Cardiology
- Prepares for Echo exam either through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
Requirements: Education/Skills
- High School Graduate or equivalent is required.
- Basic Computer Knowledge
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and written.
Experience
- 0-5 years of recent experience in performing cardiac echo's is required.
