What Your Job Will Be Like

We are seeking a R&D Electrical Engineer to support the full lifecycle of surety components; development, production, and assessment of ongoing lifetime performance. These electromechanical devices play a critical role in assuring the safety and security of the nation's nuclear deterrent in a wide range of environments including severe accident scenarios. Our traditionally mechanical organization is seeking an Electrical Engineer to help our multi-disciplinary approach to cutting-edge surety architecture designs that are being developed and tested.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Collaborate on multidisciplinary teams, providing ownership and direction for electrical designs.
  • Coordinate with customers, production agencies, and stakeholders to support design, testing, development, qualification, and production activities.
  • Analyze performance against requirements, build prototypes, and refine designs.
  • Perform modeling and simulation of design performance using tools such as SPICE and MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Communicate technical information and project status effectively to team members, customers, and management.

Travel to partner and customer locations as required (generally less than once every two months).

Applicants chosen for an interview will be asked to provide an overview briefing of their technical experience.

Applicants on this requisition may be interviewed by multiple organizations at Sandia National Laboratories.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

We perform conceptual design, full-scale engineering development, product characterization, product qualification, componentproduction support, and ongoing surveillance. Mechanisms for which we have design responsibility include unique signal strong links, environmental sensing devices, weapon release detection switches, and future safety concepts.

Our technical backgrounds are diverse. Some of us have spent years focusing on the fine details of particular technologies and are recognized as nation-level specialists. Some of us are generalists and support multiple projectskeeping things connected and developing new skills.

Our teams are comprised of specialists and generalists working together, and it is easy to shift between projects and technical roles over time.
