Job Summary: The Market Access Trainer is responsible for designing, developing, and delivering comprehensive training programs for Market Access teams. This role is critical in ensuring that Market access teams are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to support healthcare providers, navigate payer landscapes, and address reimbursement challenges. Additionally, the trainer must demonstrate subject matter expertise on all aspects of navigating and engaging customers in the reimbursement eco-system. This knowledge will be leveraged to accelerate the capabilities for the Market Access team through classroom engagements. The specialist will lead training interventions both at a national and regional level and use their knowledge to enhance the capabilities of the broader organization. The Market Access Trainer will be required to have exceptional reimbursement knowledge, communication, cross-functional planning, and facilitation skills. Key Responsibilities: Become a Subject Matter Expert *Display a deep understanding of the reimbursement environment, distribution models and relevant commercial payers and PBMS, Medicare, Medicaid and other governmental programs; and know the systems, processes, policies and trends associated with each. *Exhibit deep technical knowledge, including patient insurance benefit design, coverage, coding and payment methodologies, prior authorizations process, levels of appeals process, new drug exception process, patient affordability, and medical and pharmacy benefit designs. *Help market access teams to better understand the current reimbursement environment and anticipated changes. *Exhibit knowledge of both traditional and wholesale/retail distribution and specialty environments, including specialty distribution and the process for navigating scripts through a network of specialty pharmacies. *Engage Key Customers to Meet Critical Business Needs. *Demonstrate a deep understanding of customers in the market, their structures and processes, key customer stakeholder roles and responsibilities, electronic health records systems and experience with manufacturer support programs. Training Program Development: *Design and develop training curricula that cover healthcare reimbursement processes, payer policies, patient access programs and case management. *Create training materials such as presentations, job aids, workshops, e-learning modules, and case studies that align with company policies and industry best practices. *Ensure that training programs are adaptable to address regional payer variations and product-specific requirements. *Coach, evaluate, and certify field reimbursement specialist's skill level and readiness. Market Access Training Delivery: *Lead training sessions for new hires and existing Market Access Managers, covering topics such as payer access, prior authorizations, appeals processes, and patient support programs. *Deliver both in-person and virtual training sessions, ensuring that training content is engaging, interactive, and easy to understand. *Provide hands-on training and practical exercises to enhance Market Access ability to assist providers with reimbursement issues and patient access challenges. Ongoing Education & Updates: *Keep the market access team informed of industry trends, payer policy changes, and new access programs. *Develop and implement refresher courses or update sessions to ensure that market access remain knowledgeable on the latest reimbursement processes and payer policies. *Collaborate with internal stakeholders (legal, compliance, and market access teams) to ensure that all training content reflects up-to-date policies and regulations. Market Access Support and Observation: *Conduct observations and assessments of market access to evaluate the effectiveness of training and identify any skill gaps. *Provide coaching and feedback to individual market access to help them improve their understanding of reimbursement processes and payer interactions. *Act as a resource to market access, answering questions and troubleshooting complex reimbursement issues as needed. Cross-Department Collaboration: *Collaborate as needed with overlapping internal stakeholders to identify, prioritize, and address access and affordability challenges while following internal compliance guidelines; and synchronize and engage with overlapping stakeholders based on communication preferences. *Collaborate with sales, market access, legal, and compliance teams to ensure alignment between training programs and broader commercial strategies. *Work closely with product teams to integrate product-specific information into training materials, especially for new product launches. *Partner with market access managers to assess training needs and customize programs based on team performance and regional challenges. Compliance and Reporting: *Ensure that all training content complies with healthcare laws and regulations (e.g., HIPAA, CMS guidelines) and internal policies. *Track and report on training progress, performance, and knowledge retention through assessments and follow-up evaluations. *Document all training activities and ensure that market access teams are fully certified and compliant with company and regulatory standards. Qualifications: *Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in healthcare, business, education, or a related field; advanced degrees or certifications (e.g., Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialist (CMRS)) are a plus. *Extensive years of experience in healthcare reimbursement, field training, or market access roles, with a solid understanding of payer policies, coding, billing, and patient access programs. *Previous experience in training or education, preferably within the pharmaceutical, biotech, or medical device industries. *In-depth knowledge of healthcare reimbursement processes, including insurance verification, prior authorization, appeals, and payer policy nuances. *Excellent presentation and facilitation skills, with the ability to explain complex reimbursement concepts in a clear and engaging way. *Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to provide coaching and feedback to field teams. *Willingness to travel (up to 50%) to deliver field training and conduct on-site observations.
