Description
The Laboratory Assistant II will provide administrative and clinical support for the UCLA Clinical Research Unit (CRU). Major duties include, but are not limited to the following: triage paperwork, maintain confidential filing systems, confidential data entry, prepare and distribute correspondence, answer incoming phone calls, fax/photocopy/scan documents, scan lab manuals, update and distribute research charts and study logs, prepare investigational drug reports, obtain study participant records from internal and external sources, transport study participant records and charts to/from various CRU clinic locations, assist in obtaining physician signatures, assist with campus/building tours for sponsor representatives, process and pack/ship biological specimens (using dry ice), obtain liquid nitrogen and dry ice, request and prepare lab kits and supplies, dispose of biohazard material, review schedules for research coordinators and remind them of commitments, assist in tumor collection and freezing samples in liquid nitrogen, pick up oral medications from pharmacy, retrieve used oral medication for recording by research coordinator, attend meetings as required, perform other duties and assist as required. The Lab Assistant should also have experience in packaging retroviral vectors for gene transfer experiments with experience in PCR. Salary Range: $26.23 - $30.93 Hourly
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in biology and/or equivalent combination
of education and experience Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively interact with campus departments and the public - Ability to prioritize workload and ensure confidentiality
- Ability to use a personal computer and other standard
office and lab equipment - Ability to file accurately in both alphabetical and
numerical sequence - Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to shift
priorities to meet deadlines - Skills in performing duties with frequent interruptions
and/or distractions - Ability to work in more than one environment, traveling to
various clinic sites, meetings, conferences, etc. - Ability to compose correspondence, prepare logs, and
complete research forms/documents using clear and concise English grammar, Ability to compose letters and memos using clear and concise English grammar - Ability to work with a high level of accuracy especially
when preparing lab specimens for shipment and/or delivery to clinical research laboratories - Ability to lift/push/pull equipment such as fax machine,
computers, large amounts of documents and boxes. Replace large water bottle on water cooler as needed. Ability to lift/push/pull up to approximately 50 lbs. - Familiar with medical terminology and a strong
understanding of the delivery of medical care. - Ability to perform additional duties, tasks, special
projects as needed by the Supervisor and the Division Manager.
Preferred:
- Minimum of 1 year of related experience or training
