Position Summary

The Consulting Manager - Healthcare Operations leads strategic and operational consulting engagements focused on improving efficiency, cost performance, and quality outcomes across healthcare organizations. This role partners with health systems, outpatient clinics, and post-acute providers to design and implement solutions across supply chain optimization, clinical operations, and care delivery models.

The Consulting Manager serves as both a project leader and subject matter expert, driving measurable results through data-driven insights, process improvement, and change management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Client Engagement & Project Leadership
  • Lead multiple consulting engagements across healthcare operations and supply chain functions
  • Serve as primary client contact for project execution, ensuring alignment with strategic goals
  • Develop workplans, timelines, and deliverables; manage scope, budget, and risks
  • Present findings and recommendations to executive stakeholders (C-suite, clinical leaders)
  • Operations & Supply Chain Optimization
  • Assess and redesign end-to-end supply chain processes (procurement, inventory, distribution, vendor management)
  • Identify cost reduction opportunities through utilization management, standardization, and sourcing strategies
  • Optimize clinical and operational workflows (e.g., rehab throughput, OR utilization, outpatient flow)
  • Support implementation of inventory systems, PAR level optimization, and demand planning models
  • Data Analytics & Performance Improvement
  • Analyze operational, financial, and supply chain data to identify trends and improvement opportunities
  • Develop KPIs, dashboards, and benchmarking tools (e.g., cost per case, supply expense per visit, inventory turns)
  • Conduct productivity and capacity analyses across clinical departments

Change Management & Implementation

  • Lead implementation of recommended solutions, ensuring adoption and sustainability
  • Facilitate stakeholder engagement, training, and communication strategies
  • Develop policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and governance structures
  • Business Development
  • Support proposal development, client presentations, and thought leadership
  • Identify opportunities to expand engagements within existing clients
  • Contribute to development of consulting offerings (e.g., care transformation, supply chain strategy)

Team Leadership

  • Mentor and supervise supervisors, sr. associates and associates
  • Provide feedback, coaching, and performance management
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance team environment

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree

Master's degree (MBA, MHA, or similar) preferred

Experience

5-8+ years of experience in healthcare consulting, hospital operations, or healthcare supply chain

Experience working with health systems, outpatient clinics, or rehabilitation services preferred

Demonstrated success leading projects and managing client relationships

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of healthcare supply chain operations (GPOs, contracting, inventory management, logistics)
  • Experience with clinical operations
  • Advanced analytical skills (Excel, data visualization tools such as Tableau/Power BI)
  • Strong financial acumen
  • Excellent communication and executive presentation skills
  • Proven project management experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with ERP or supply chain systems (e.g., Lawson, Oracle, Workday)
  • Familiarity with EHR systems (e.g., Epic) and their impact on operations
  • Experience with regulatory and reimbursement environments (Medicare, Medicaid, commercial payers)
  • Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Cost savings achieved (supply chain and operations)
  • Travel up to 75% depending on client needs

At RSM, an employee's pay at any point in their career is intended to reflect their experiences, performance, and skills for their current role. The salary range (or starting rate for interns and associates) for this role represents numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, education, skills, work experience, certifications, location, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.

Compensation Range: $112,100 - $225,500

Individualsselected for this role will be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on firm and individual performance.
