Job Summary

In a group environment, the Water Aerobics Fitness Instructor leads club members and guests of members through a format of exercises designed to enhance overall fitness, strength and endurance, while ensuring the safety of our members. The Fitness Instructor - Pool also serves as a resource to educate members on various aspects of fitness.

Job Responsibilities

  • Teaches Water Aerobics and/or similar pool fitness programs while providing a positive and enjoyable class atmosphere; gives encouragement, and creates a comfortable and appealing environment through music and communication.
  • Clearly describes and adequately demonstrates performed exercises for group fitness participants. Provides complete instructions, including body alignment, movement execution, muscle groups and corrections.
  • Prepares for class (i.e. playlists, choreography, progressions and regressions, getting to know participants) and provides open and friendly communication with members and coworkers.
  • Operates and troubleshoots audio equipment.
  • Demonstrates variety with choreography, music and exercises. Uses appropriate level of intensity, pace, time breakdown and choice of exercise for each class.
  • Advises participants of possible injury risks.
  • Monitors attendance at each of the class sessions.
  • Reports injuries immediately to Assistant Clubhouse Operations Leader or Pool Shift Coordinator.
  • Encourages participants to attend other classes that are aligned with their fitness goals.
  • Serves as a role model for employees to achieve fitness goals.

Job Qualifications

  • 6+ months of teaching experience in a group fitness format.
  • A nationally recognized group fitness certification such as AFAA, ACE or ACSM, or willing to obtain upon employment.
  • Certified in CPR/AED.
  • Knowledge of safe exercise techniques and group fitness principles.
  • Experience developing and delivering aerobic exercise activities.
  • Positive leadership and motivational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills, resulting in the ability to interact with all levels of the employee population.
  • Ability to build a rapport or professional relationship with Westfield CC Pool participants.
