The Highlights:
The Access Services Assistant provides circulation services to students, faculty, staff and other Library users at the University Library's Loop Campus location. The Access Services Assistant helps supervise student staff and services per an assigned schedule, currently Monday through Friday 1pm-5pm. The Access Services Assistant provides supplemental workflow support in the areas of circulation services, such as course reserves and interlibrary loan, as needed. This position reports to the Head of the Loop Library.
The Access Services Assistant works in a highly supportive, collegial culture that encourages active participation in meaningful and valuable skills training and professional development. This includes training workshops, committee memberships, and engagement in programs that support the Library's mission and its Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access goals, while building connections and partnerships across DePaul's wider academic and user community.

What You'll Do:


  • Provides direct circulation services to students, faculty, and other Library users including providing general directional assistance; borrowing, renewal, and return of library materials and loanable technology; assisting users with locating known items; processing local, consortial, and interlibrary loan requests; processing course reserves materials; basic technical support and troubleshooting for printers, photocopiers, scanners, and study room reservations; helps with core stacks maintenance functions (shelving, pull slips, shelf-reading, inventory).
  • Responsible for the supervision of weekday and/or evening library access services and student staff on duty per an assigned schedule. This includes being knowledgeable of library policies and procedures and communicating this information to library users as necessary.
  • Assists the Head of the Loop Library in the onboarding, training, and supervision of new student staff.
  • Performs library opening and/or closing procedures.
  • Responsible for reporting out any operations, facility, or staff issues to the Head of Loop Library at the end of each shift.
  • Supervises one student assistant at a time while scheduled at the Access Services Desk.
  • This position will be based primarily at DePaul's Loop Campus Library, located in downtown Chicago at 1 E Jackson Blvd. The position may require occasional travel to DePaul's Lincoln Park campus.
  • Part-time assistants are each scheduled 16-20 hours during assigned weekday morning, weekday afternoon, and/or weekday evening shifts through the academic year. This position is currently assigned Monday through Friday 1pm-5pm and may be subject to change based on staffing needs and scheduled hours of operation. Altered schedules and/or reduced hours typically occur during summer quarter and intersessions.
  • There may be opportunities for additional occasional evening or weekend hours at the John T. Richardson Library on DePaul's Lincoln Park campus as part of the Access Services back up staffing pool.



What You'll Need:



  • Associate's Degree or equivalent experience required.

  • Experience providing customer service required.

  • Previous library experience preferred.

  • Supervisory experience preferred.

  • General administrative experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills (email, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace) required.
  • Experience with Alma or other integrated library systems (ILS) preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and with a high level of accuracy.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and effectively interact with people across cultural identities and foster an inclusive, equitable, and welcoming environment.

The anticipated hiring range for this position is: $18.70/hr.
The salary range provided in this posting reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Actual compensation offered or earned is dependent on experience, education and other factors including departmental budget.
