Job Description

The Senior Manager, Patient Advocacy & Policy at Vertex Pharmaceuticals reports to the Executive Director, Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Patient Advocacy & Policy and will support the strategy and execution of US (United States) Public Affairs (USPA) activities, with a focus in cystic fibrosis. This role will work within Public Affairs as well as cross-functionally with other internal Vertex functions, including commercial, corporate communications, medical and legal, to ensure alignment and progress around our corporate goals and objectives.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the therapeutic area (cystic fibrosis) related
    policy issues & serve as the primary liaison to the USPA Public Policy & Reimbursement, Federal & State Government Affairs teams on above brand, federal and state policy work.
  • Support identification of opportunities to related to disease area objectives and generates materials and assets to execute on those engagements.
  • Monitor state legislation and identifies substantive policy and political opportunities and risks to the company's business.
  • Lead key USPA cystic fibrosis projects and is responsible for departmental program/process operations to help successfully advance policy initiatives.
  • Develops plans, goals, processes, and logistics for projects, gaining cooperation and alignment.
  • Work closely with Executive Director to support any upcoming launches/ label expansions; manage advocacy events including fulfillment of sponsorship benefits.
  • Create materials related to launch / label expansions & develop educational materials related to policy issues.
  • This individual will be expected to work in a cross-functional environment and to coordinate her/his initiatives with the Executive Director, CF Advocacy & Policy, other USPA team members, Corporate Communications etc.
  • Summarize and creates communications for internal stakeholders on key information such as program progress, timeline updates, and potential risks.
  • 10-20% travel anticipated

Required Skills, Experience & Knowledge

  • Minimum of 3-5 years' current and relevant experience in the pharmaceutical industry and/or non-profit sector and prior experience in patient advocacy, public health policy, government relations or related field(s), preferably with experience in the rare disease environment.
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, often addressing novel/unusual situations and exercising judgement.
  • Excellent ability to collaborate with other functional areas and build effective, productive business relationships.
  • Project management skills and highly proficient at managing, tracking, and measuring.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities/projects at a given time, ensuring deadlines, budgets, and status updates.
  • Developed communication skills and the ability to synthesize data and information into meaningful insights.
  • Very detail oriented and strong project/operation management skills.
  • Comfortable working in areas of uncertainty.

Pay Range:

$148,800 - $223,200

Disclosure Statement:

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
