| Position Highlights |
Situated within the Center for Career Readiness, the Marketing & Communications Specialist thinks strategically to achieve long-term goals while remaining motivated by hands-on execution of projects and details, focusing on marketing student engagement and career opportunities. They will manage the development and implementation of marketing and communications efforts to maximize impact for the department and its stakeholders. The Marketing and Communications Specialist will work as part of a small team whose responsibilities also include website management, social media, and graphic design work. This position offers a hybrid work arrangement. While many responsibilities may be completed remotely, the role requires weekly onsite presence at the Tucson, Arizona campus to fulfill duties that must be performed in person. | Duties & Responsibilities |
Marketing & Communications Project Management
- Support the development and execution of marketing and communications plans for specific events, resources and programs, with an emphasis on career and networking events, in support of the Success for Every Student strategic imperative.
- Manage multiple day-to-day marketing projects. Coordinate with event/program leads and with supervisor to ensure consistent and timely messaging.
- Create, execute, and continually improve an email marketing approach for effective promotion of department events, programs, and resources with a sensitivity to the high volume of messaging received by stakeholders. Use Handshake's email function to send students email that are relevant, compelling, and consistently branded.
Social Media & Branding
- Manage the department's social media strategy and channels to craft, plan, and consistently and regularly pre-schedule posts to promote events, ongoing resources, new opportunities, success stories, and other news and information relevant to stakeholders and utilize digital marketing tactics to track the efforts.
- Assist staff members in more effectively carrying out marketing and communications efforts. Provide direct assistance and resources.
- Develop resources such as templates, marketing toolkits, flyers, videos, and other visual aids to help staff and campus partners communicate with students and other stakeholders about our programs and events.
- Ensure that the correct branding is consistently applied throughout all communications and marketing materials. Oversee appropriate usage of the Department's overall look, feel, voice, and messaging. Provide staff training as necessary.
- Coordinate with other staff to write and edit marketing content and copy, including flyers, videos, emails, website copy, advertisements, student stories, and other marketing collateral or materials, as necessary.
- Assist with website management and content audits to continually improve the user experience for stakeholders.
Marketing & Communications Strategy & Analysis
- Working with the Strategist, Content Engagement, develop an annual marketing and communication plan for the department.
- Collect, analyze, and synthesize data on the effectiveness of different communication channels to optimize marketing results; use internal and external research and data to determine most effective means to reach target populations.
- Utilize digital marketing platforms and tactics to track the efforts and metrics for success for social and email campaigns.
- Perform related duties as assigned or required to meet department and university goals and objectives.
- Stay abreast of communication and marketing industry trends and best practices to continually refine and improve communications and marketing tactics, methods, and materials.
Administration & Collaboration
- Represent the Department on university committees and at conferences as needed and assigned.
- Establish, nurture and maintain relationships with campus partners that help increase the visibility of the department.
- Participate in at least 2-3 webinars or other professional development opportunities and share learning with the team, by request or at the direction of your supervisor, annually.
- Perform related duties as assigned or required to meet Department and university goals and objectives.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Exceptional communication skills and the capacity for working both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
- Strong project management skills, including the ability to set priorities, manage simultaneous projects, work effectively with colleagues, and complete projects on time.
- Great attention to detail in writing and copy-editing marketing materials.
- Knowledge of email marketing software.
- Ability to test and design email templates to ensure a consistent look across most email clients.
- Knowledge of web design and website management
- Ability to evaluate, recommend, implement, and manage software and technology related to marketing.
- Strong knowledge of marketing approaches, tactics and processes.

| Minimum Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

| Preferred Qualifications |
- Experience in marketing and communications in higher education, focusing on a college student audience.
- 3 years of progressive experience in marketing and communications.
- 1 year of experience in content creation and social media strategy.
- Experience developing and executing successful marketing and communication plans.
- Experience writing and editing marketing materials for different platforms and channels.
- Experience with email marketing.
- Experience ideating and generating assets and collateral for web, digital and print using commonly used technology and software including Canva and Adobe Suite.
