General Responsibilities:

The Terracon AI team is seeking a Data Scientist I with a strong foundation in Computer Vision. This role offers hands-on experience working on applied computer vision and deep learning problems with real business impact.

This position works closely with a small AI team and is supported by a technical leader/mentor within the AI & Data Science group.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

This role supports the development and implementation of computer vision and deep learning models, contributing to internal AI products focused on real-world use cases.

  • Assist in designing and implementing computer vision models for detection, segmentation, classification, and visual understanding
  • Support data preparation, including cleaning, preprocessing, and exploratory analysis for image and visual data
  • Train, evaluate, and tune deep learning models using appropriate performance metrics
  • Perform basic error analysis and document findings, tradeoffs, and results
  • Collaborate with senior data scientists and engineers on model integration and deployment considerations
  • Conduct targeted literature reviews and applied research to support model choices
  • Provide regular progress updates and actively participate in technical feedback sessions
Requirements:

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a related field
  • 0-3 years of relevant experience (including internships, academic research, or applied projects)
  • Strong foundational knowledge of Computer Vision and Deep Learning
  • Hands-on experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow
  • Proficiency in Python
  • Ability to clearly explain project work, approaches, and results

    Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)

  • Exposure to Vision-Language Models (VLMs) or multimodal systems
  • Familiarity with transformer-based vision architectures
  • Some exposure to applied or near-production ML workflows
  • Interest in building AI products in an evolving, fast-moving environment
