What to Expect
The Quality Engineer, Stamping, will work as a member of Tesla's Quality organization. The primary objective of this role is to support the production of high-quality Cold Stamping through the continual improvement of process and product quality and the systems that surround them. The successful candidate for this position must be a problem-solver at core, have a strong quality & customer-focused mindset and risk assessment, and have the personal drive and stamina for relentless, continual improvement (personally and professionally).
What You'll Do
- Lead cross-functional problem-solving teams to drive process and product improvements; use of QA methodologies to manage and facilitate issue resolution including root cause investigations and the development, implementation and monitoring of effective corrective and preventive actions
- Establish and maintain monthly quality performance metrics
- Review concerns Design Engineering and perform risk assessment and continue to understand functions of castings geometry for vehicle load cases
- Develop and implement quality standards as part of the Tesla Quality System to assure products meet expectations of our target customers
- Support the development of product specifications and tolerances, design and process FMEAs and develop quality plan for die approval
- Establish and maintain control plans and inspection standards to assure critical features are controlled through the assembly/production processes
- Lead/facilitate review and disposition of discrepant materials identified for control of nonconforming product
- Promote and maintain a culture and attitude of continuous improvement, working within the Tesla team to make it more efficient, safer and an enjoyable place to work
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or manufacturing related field or equivalent experience
- Proficient in stamping processes including process variables, tooling dies, and raw material properties
- Demonstrated success applying quality problem solving methods such as fishbone diagrams and 5 Whys
- Proficiency in risk assessments, PFMEA, process capability analysis, hypothesis testing, DoE, SPC and quality core tools
- Thorough knowledge of GD&T and ability to interpret CMM reports
- Experience with CAD tools such as Solidworks and Catia
- Experience with broad variety of measurement devices, inspection techniques, and mechanical testing of plates and strips including report interpretation
- Ability to establish and maintain timelines, dashboards and KPIs to ensure visibility and accountability
- Excellent oral, written and presentation communication skills
- Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally (5% to 10%)
