Computer System Engineer - Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) Department Overview
The Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) supports and advances the University of Virginia's research mission by providing essential infrastructure, services, and guidance to faculty, staff, and research teams. This position will play a key role in supporting OVPR's technical infrastructure and collaborating with Information Technology Services (ITS) to ensure secure, reliable, and innovative solutions that meet the needs of the research enterprise. Position Summary
The Computer System Engineer will administer all aspects of a distributed computer system supporting OVPR's operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing OVPR's servers, maintaining their security and functionality, coordinating with ITS on system integration, and supporting cloud-based services. This includes planning and coordinating system utilization, upgrades, and security; performing growth analyses and capacity planning; and supporting OVPR's MSSQL server environment, including its data warehouse and reporting services. This role requires independent decision-making on non-routine tasks, serving as a technical resource, and providing guidance to others on complex problems and processes. This is a 18 month limited term position based on funding.

This position primarily involves work at a desk using standard office equipment. The role may occasionally require movement of equipment up to 25 pounds and working outside normal business hours to address critical issues or perform upgrades. Salary Range
