Your Job

We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to support new product development projects for the optical transceiver team out of our Carlsbad, CA office. This position will play a key role in all phases of the product development cycle, from concept through production. We are seeking an experienced mechanical engineer, well versed in producing high quality designs, performing stress analysis, and FEA-driven design optimization.

What You Will Do

  • Design, model, simulate, and optimize mechanical designs and models
  • Create test plans, technical documents, reports, and presentations
  • Perform tolerance analysis, characterize devices, generate engineering changes, release drawings for fabrication, evaluate vendors, analyze issues and determine root cause
  • Work with and/or mentor other team members to optimize and finalize design for full production and to meet all specifications
  • Provide technical guidance to engineers and technicians. Provide technical support for customers and suppliers
  • Support process development and production teams
  • Perform and/or support design verification, reliability, and failure analysis to ensure that design meets all specifications and customer requirements
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • 5+ years of professional experience with 3+ years of hands-on experience in mechanical design
  • High proficiency in 3D modeling and 2D drafting using NX, SolidWorks, or similar CAD platforms
  • Expertise in GD&T
  • Experience in applying statistical tolerance stack-up techniques
  • High proficiency in performing stress analysis and FEA-driven design optimization
  • Proficiency in Product Lifecycle Management tools
  • Experience in cross-functional collaboration between departments to achieve project goals
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities while maintaining exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to deliver clear, concise, and professional communication to support vendor and customer relationships

What Will Put You Ahead

  • MS or PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Applied Physics, Optics, or related field related technical discipline
  • Familiarity with optical alignment, die attach, and optoelectrical packaging
  • Experience with thermal design/simulation, and familiarity with thermal interface materials
  • Experience in DFMEA principles


For this role, we anticipate paying $120,000 - $160,000 per year. This role is eligible for variable pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form.
