| Position Summary |
This position will serve as a Research Technician within the Department of Pediatrics. The mission of the Department of Pediatrics is 1) to provide state of the art critical care, chronic care, and acute care of children with a full spectrum of pediatric disorders 2) to teach Medical Students, Residents and Fellows to excel in the field of pediatric medicine and to 3) conduct highly meritorious clinical and/or laboratory-based investigation in each division or program.
The Division of Infectious Disease serves the children of North Carolina in the diagnosis and treatment of children with a broad range of known or suspected infections or infectious diseases and evaluations of fever of unknown origin.
The Division is expanding its laboratory and clinical research endeavors. Established and anticipated research studies and associated personnel will create a nationally recognized program. The program will be dedicated to prevention and treatment of microbial diseases of childhood, adolescents and young adults, and the education of community physicians, allied health professionals and the public.
The Research Technician supports the design, organization, and execution of laboratory research activities within the lab. This role is responsible for performing a variety of cell- and tissue-based assays, including propagation of both eukaryotic cells and bacterial cultures, and applying standard molecular and cellular biology techniques.
The technician will contribute to in vivo studies through mouse colony management and infection modeling, ensuring adherence to established protocols and regulatory standards. Additional responsibilities include data collection, processing, statistical analysis, and preparation of figures for presentations and publications.
The incumbent will also assist with general laboratory operations, including preparation and proper disposal of reagents, maintenance of inventory, and timely ordering of supplies.
The Research Technician will work closely with the Principal Investigator and research team to support ongoing projects, including contributing to grant applications, progress reports, and scientific manuscripts. |

Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. |

* Execute multi-step experiments while following detailed protocols with minimal supervision
* Perform quantitative calculations, including ratios, dilutions, or percentages
* Maintain accurate, organized, and detailed laboratory records to ensure reproducibility and data integrity |
| Special Physical/Mental Requirements |
* Manual dexterity and hand/finger agility required for precise use of laboratory equipment, including micropipettes and other small instruments.
* Ability to perform repetitive fine motor tasks with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
* Capacity to stand, sit, or remain at a laboratory bench for extended periods of time.
* Ability to move laboratory supplies and equipment (typically up to 25 lbs.).
* All duties to be performed with or without accommodation.
