Purpose of the Role

The Material Controller I role supports successful project execution by coordinating material planning, tracking, and control activities that ensure the right materials are available at the right time to support project delivery. This role contributes to efficient supply chain execution through accurate material forecasting, inventory coordination, and maintenance of material control systems that support operational excellence and sustainable outcomes. Working under guidance and within established processes, this role supports project teams by maintaining material visibility across project lifecycles while developing technical expertise in material management systems and project execution practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Review engineering drawings, specifications, material lists, and technical documentation to determine project material requirements accurately.
- Analyze project requirements and develop material demand forecasts to support project schedules and operational priorities.
- Maintain and update material control systems to support material tracking, reporting, and inventory visibility throughout project lifecycles.
- Prepare and maintain material documentation, including specifications, descriptions, supplier information, codes, and supporting records required for procurement and project execution activities.
- Monitor inventory levels and evaluate existing stock availability to optimize material usage and minimize excess inventory.
- Coordinate with engineering, procurement, construction, logistics, and project teams to ensure material requirements align with project scope and schedule expectations.
- Support material receiving, tracking, allocation, and reconciliation activities to maintain data accuracy and material availability.
- Identify material shortages, potential supply risks, or discrepancies and communicate impacts to project stakeholders in a timely manner.
- Assist in maintaining project material status reports and provide updates that support project visibility and decision-making.
- Support implementation and maintenance of customer-specific and project-specific material management requirements.
- Perform routine audits and reviews of material records, inventory information, and control processes to ensure compliance with project requirements and established procedures.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen material management practices, digital workflows, and operational efficiency.
- Provide support and guidance to less experienced team members regarding material processes, systems, and work practices when required.
Qualifications / Skill Set
- Degree qualification in a related discipline or equivalent combination of education and practical experience.
- Relevant experience supporting materials management, supply chain coordination, inventory control, project controls, logistics, procurement support, or related project delivery functions.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, bills of material, and project documentation.
- Working knowledge of material control principles, inventory management practices, and supply chain processes within project-based environments.
- Experience working with material management systems, enterprise systems, databases, and digital reporting tools.
- Strong analytical capability with the ability to evaluate material requirements and identify trends or discrepancies.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and support stakeholder engagement.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate records and reporting.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining quality and responsiveness within changing project environments.
- Intermediate understanding of systems, processes, and tools associated with material control and project execution environments.
- Commitment to continuous learning and supporting sustainable project delivery through efficient resource utilization and operational excellence.
