Position Highlights The University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix is hiring several facilitators for case-based instruction (CBI) to support the delivery of the Foundational Curriculum for first- and second-year medical students. Foundational Curriculum provides an integrated approach to medical education, emphasizing the application of biomedical science, clinical reasoning, evidence-based medicine and patient-centered care through active learning.

The CBI facilitators serve as a faculty facilitator for small-group, in-person case-based instruction sessions. This role supports students as they apply foundational science concepts to clinical cases, develop problem-solving and communication skills and build the reasoning framework needed for clinical training. The facilitator is responsible for completing CBI training, facilitating approximately 20 CBI sessions per academic year, attending or reviewing CBI preparation sessions, assessing student performance and meeting individually with assigned students during each block.

The CBI facilitator also contributes to the continuous improvement of the CBI curriculum by participating in facilitator meetings, providing feedback to block directors on case rigor and alignment with current clinical and scientific practice and assisting with the development or revision of cases as needed. This role performs assigned duties under the supervision of the associate dean of Foundational Curriculum, and requires engagement with block directors, coordinators and other faculty involved in the pre-clerkship curriculum.

It is expected that the candidate will fulfill the responsibilities of a faculty member in an appropriate department, actively participate in medical student teaching and/or scholarly work, and must qualify for an appointment at the rank of assistant, associate or full professor.

This is a one-year position that may be renewed annually based on performance, curricular need, and continued funding.
